Someone gave me like 8 hard seltzers through a Buy Nothing group once. But I also got a beautiful desk, a knife block, a huge amount of dog toys, and I gave away a couch in pretty decent condition. Buy Nothing is grassroots community mutual aid. :)

im not sure if it’s normal to feel this overwhelmed in the first few weeks of medical school or if im (or my school?) a special case. I’m excited and grateful to be here but I haven’t figured out how to do it well (or even good) yet and that’s unsettling.

Second, yes, burnout rate is high at 65%. But when pretty much all specialties are hitting 45% or greater, let’s not act like it’s just emergency that gets shafted.

Also, if you have a bad patient outcome or have to give a terrible diagnosis, check in with the student after the event both immediately after and the next day. I can’t say how much that would help support us as we learn how to handle the emotionally tough part of this job.

We do. It’s 40 students with 1 instructor and we all break into groups of 4-5. The experience is SO vastly varied for people depending on their instructor. With my fav, it was a good use of time. With a bad one, I nearly couldn’t get out of bed bc I knew it would be such a waste.
Does your med school use TBL? This 2021 study found that “students perceived Team Based Learning as a superior teaching and learning strategy compared to traditional lectures.” This is NOT the sense I get from students. Do you agree with the study’s conclusions?
