this is a terrible sanitization. in the novel, as the creature became less egalitarian as he educated himself. he wanted a female companion so he can CONTROL her. gdt couldnt bring himself to make the creature anything but simple and sympathetic.
i actually find it interesting that in the book and most adaptations that have been done the creature specifically asks for a bride/a female companion. but in gdt’s adaptation he doesn’t, he just wants a companion. victor is the one to bring up a bride. i really like this choice

This positioning is so bizarre. “Limp past $200 million?” A brilliant, ballsy PTA movie has made more than a prepackaged Disney event film like “Tron: Ares.” This should be celebrated and not sniffed at.
One Battle After Another is going to limp past $200 million in the next week. Box office isn't the only metric to measure a movie. For an artist, it's not the most important metric. But the folks who thought it would become a cultural sensation a la Sinners were wrong.
