Because part of it is that hospitality isn’t optional. No matter how hard your times are, you’re expected to offer a guest a drink and something light to eat. We’re taught to decline. When you’re pretty poor that can strain your resources. We would hate to do that to our hosts.

I’ve only lived in the PI and the USA but I will say that by and large, across all ethnicities, Americans are far more welcoming of their friends into their homes. The ethos is very different in the old country. We’d rather the kids meet and play outside than for them to come in.

At the same time it’s not unreasonable to expect her kids’ friends not to rummage through your pantry, but capping it with “groceries are expensive” just takes the cake. I hope she taught her kids to be equally polite and mindful of the costs when they visit their friends.

But also, it is KIIIIINDA anarcho-tyrannical in character because you’ll be investigated for “inciting a riot” for burning the US flag which means sure, it’s still not legal to riot but if you burn the US flag you MIGHT lead to a riot so that’s investigation-worthy.
@McAdooGordon Agree. It’s also bad optics because that’s not even what the EO says: it seems to say that if someone burns a flag, they’ll be investigated for inciting a riot. And if they incited a riot, then it’s an automatic one year sentence. No matter how vile it is, Americans should.

This is the correct take and I agree. That said, in the modern context, a real dictator would use anarcho-tyranny to decriminalize violent responses by citizens to flag burning. I don’t think Trump has it in him to become THAT.
The EO to criminalize flag burning is DOA. It’s plainly unconstitutional. The courts will enjoin it, all the way up. Burning the flag is abhorrent & unpatriotic, but it’s free speech. Such an EO is also bad politics. Libertarians make up a necessary part of DJT’s base.

MOM UPDATE: it’s her youngest sister’s birthday so she and the other siblings visited her at her place for karaoke and dancing and dinner out. Birthday girl aunt is LIP SYNCING mom’s singing in the second video and they pulled it off really well
