This is great thinking from Alex. We should ask ourselves this more! โKnowledge richโ can morph into contextless teaching without understanding. Implementation of knowledge organisers suffers from this problem. I look at some and think: โthis is so abstract and vocab dense!โ
@Suchmo83 Yeah... if I was being taught how to fix a car (not my area of expertise!), I imagine I'd prefer the mechanic to explain each part when we got around to it, rather than pre-listing them out of context and before I was even certain about what the new learning was around.

@researchED_Aus is a space to discuss writing & system approaches with @natwexler as keynote. Iโm thrilled to add writing assessment- including reducing teacher workload, but not at the expense of building foundational student skills. @greg_ashman @daisychristo @ThinkForwardEdu

This is the final post in an interesting and informative thread by @C_Hendrick, doing an assiduous deep dive into what we *think* we understand about Lev Vygotsky, his writings, and his legacy. It helped fill some important gaps in my knowledge ๐
The Vygotsky of today's teacher training programmes died in 1934, was resurrected in California in 1978, and has lived ever since as a poor translation of himself. ๐งต

Nathaniel and I are so excited about this one! Episode 8 of #ChalkDust drops on Monday, this time with Denarius Frazier of Uncommon Schools. I love this one because it really reveals how belonging can and should be cultivated in the service of learning, not as an add-on.
