In too many schools, "support" has become a quiet permission to step away from learning. Side rooms. Exit cards. Safe spaces. Extra adults. Somewhere along the way, we stopped asking the obvious question: why are we removing children from the very place where theyâre meant to

In some schools, children thrive; focused, engaged, and achieving exceptional results. Just 100 metres away, children from the same community in another school, struggle with every anxiety known to man, rely on fidget spinners, wellbeing rooms, and achieve depressingly low
Children learn at different paces, in different ways, and on different days. The education system needs to be structured accordingly.

How to avoid lethal mutations in education practice: đBuild understanding, not just compliance đCreate safe spaces to think, not just do đUnderstand that surface-level routines may look correct but mask understanding @HughesHaili speaking at #ResearchEDCornwall

âThe disadvantage gap can be narrowed when we prioritise doing a few things well for all learners.â Thanks to @Amy_K_Pearce and Naveed Khan from @westcountryST for an engaging session about disrupting disadvantage at #ResearchEDCornwall

ââŚweâve told young people âdo whatever you want, be whatever you want, just make yourself happyâ. But it actually made them unhappier. The secret⌠is just stop thinking about yourself. Weâre overindulging them.â Overindulging is a form of âlow expectationsâ masked as empathy.
This is brilliant. Hats off to this man and his team for giving the school what it needed- structure, purpose, calm, and dignity. Also nicely demonstrates the classic arc of going from âsome parents protest because itâs âlike a prisonâââ to âschool massively improves, everyone

@Ms_L_White knocks it out the park every time she blogs. đ âItâs no longer a flat percentage on a spreadsheet, it becomes a real child, in a real family, with a real barrier that needs a real solution.â
Not all disadvantages look the same, and lumping every child into one category hides the real barriers they face. Right now, Iâm organising disadvantaged pupils into five broad subgroups based on family context, engagement, and underlying barriers. https://t.co/fUFW9G19sQ

Who cares if a school handed out the âmost suspensions in a day/week/monthâ, if they needed to do that to secure the future of ALL the children in the school, then absolutely the right thing to do, no?

One year ago our school was 26th of 30 in Cornwall for SEN attendance. Now we are number 1, built on consistency and inclusion.

@ebiThomasJ's two blogs over the last two weekends are giving candid insights into what it is like to currently lead a school during a period of turnaround. Important and useful blogs, in an area not often blogged or written about.
đ I wrote another blog on turnarounds, a follow up to the one I posted last weekend. This time, I touch on the importance of narrating compelling mission. đ Link in the post below đ

What is a knowledge-rich curriculum? In any event not just facts, not just math and reading, and not elitist. It is the strongest lever for equity. And thus ultimately a matter of social justice. https://t.co/HxkB9bgwrn

This is great. I sent it my whole leadership team to read.
Schools move forward with urgency and every adult has a choice: get on board or get out of the way. The same is true of consistency. If even one adult steps out of line, the whole ship judders. https://t.co/MG4aQSEYH8
