The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

Its hard to overstate just how exceptionally high global temperatures are at the moment. They have blown past anything we've previously experienced by a huge margin. Over at The Climate Brink, we try and visualize this summer of extremes in seven charts. https://t.co/yApwMbyxgG

1/7 Our new paper is out!! Our recent study shows nine years of #methane emissions (between 2010 and 2018) using ~600 lower troposphere aircraft vertical profiles over four regions in #Amazonia (the northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast) https://t.co/tPWmi08QJA

New piece @johnpodesta and I just did on Glasgow and Biden admin. Biden team doing very well. Glasgow tees up 2022 as pivotal for 1.5. We need a high ambition coalition to convince China that it needs to make a major 2030 move for its own sake.

Just got an invite to a tech and sustainability conference. This was their diversity boast. A) 20% female is nothing to show off about B) The women pictured don't look particularly representative of the world.

"Almost a million wells are quietly belching methane. The new rule could halve emissions." @EPA must tackle smaller, leak-prone wells and flaring to #ActOnClimate. More via @emilypont & @NaveenaSivam:

The #GlobalMethanePledge is seen as one of the biggest achievements of COP26 for its potential to quickly limit global warming while reducing air pollution. The CCAC is stepping up support to countries to #cutmethane by emissions 2030. https://t.co/mSeD1yHXfV

2030 Strategy of @CCACoalition key to achieve the 1.5C goal of #ParisAgreement & as per #GlasgowClimatePact at #COP26 . #Methane emissions can be reduced by 40%, black carbon by 70% by 2030, HFCs can be virtually eliminated @RickDuke1 @PeterDery8

Russia won't join the Global Methane Pledge, but the US-China agreement on coal is making Putin rethink coal expansion and EU's carbon border tariff is making it work on a domestic carbon tax. Quite the turn around!
bloomberg.com
Russia will look to cut its ambitious goals for boosting coal production in the coming decade and consider imposing a carbon tax or other regulation in the wake of the deals reached by major powers...

Vietnam is among the 100+ countries to promise to #cutmethane under the #GlobalMethanePedge. Its policies for rice cultivation are showing how countries can effectively reduce emissions and improve local livelihoods as well. https://t.co/wkI6T5DEIO

Country says it can no longer be 'rice first' as farmers urged to change planting techniques or consider alternatives.

Still trying to understand the level of privilege needed to casually say "oh 1.5°C was never going to happen" I wish they had the courage to say it to Tina Stege of Marshall Islands or Seve Paeniu of Tuvalu or countless people for whom 1.5°C means letting their homes disappear.
