We’d been planning on using the $1.3 million from Jeopardy to buy a house, but now I’m thinking maybe I’ll just hold on to it for a year or two and then use it to buy Twitter
I have an announcement: Genevieve is no longer my girlfriend... she's my fiancée!!! I couldn't be happier or more proud to spend my life with the very best person in the entire world 🥰🥰🥰
I’d like to thank all the people who have taken the time, during this busy holiday season, to reach out and explain to me that, actually, I’m a man. Every single one of you is the first person ever to make that very clever point, which had never once before crossed my mind 🙏
Some of you may have heard, but I quit my day job yesterday! It's a bit nerve-wracking to pivot from software engineer to... public figure, I guess? But regardless of the outcome I'm so excited to spend the next couple years at least tackling this new challenge!
5 years ago today, I finally took the leap into an authentic life, and told the world the truth about myself that I had always known. To anyone considering making the same choice: it won’t be as good as you imagine. It will be infinitely, indescribably better. Happy Pride, y’all
One fun little bonus of being a trans woman is getting a pat-down every single time I go through the body scanner at an airport. “The machine flagged something in your groin area.” Yeah, I’ve flagged that, too, but it’s a long process to get it removed!
I’ll get back to the backlogged game threads tomorrow. But I just want to acknowledge how overwhelmed I am by the things being written about me, and about what this run means. This has been a life-changing experience, thank you all so so much for your kindness and support ❤️
-I'll post a full recap soon (tomorrow, hopefully, but as you can imagine I'll be doing a lot of interviews over the next day or two). But first, a few thoughts on this emotional day:
Disappointed to hear that Jeopardy is considering this course of action. For what it’s worth, I, too, will not be participating in any Jeopardy productions that don’t use new clues written by their amazing, unionized writers under a fair, collectively bargained contract
I owe so much to so many people today. But above all, I can’t find enough ways to say how lucky I am that the most amazing woman in the world has chosen to spend her life with me. I love you, Genevieve, and I could never, ever have done this without you ❤️❤️❤️
Going into my first taping, one of the things I told myself was “Just be yourself, and then whatever happens as a result, you’ll be ok with it.” I’m so glad that seems to have come across for everyone!
I just finished testifying against SB 454 in Columbus. Thanks to
@EqualityOhio
for asking me here; whatever the outcome of this bill, I’m glad to have had the chance to stand up for the safety of trans youth
A year ago today, I was in LA, waiting to fulfill a dream. The year since has been full of good days, but by far the best one was May 9th, when Genevieve and I got married. Without her, none of the other good days would have happened. I’m so lucky to share my life with her!👰♀️❤️👰♀️
When Amy Schneider was an eighth grader, her fellow students voted her most likely to appear on “Jeopardy!” They underestimated her. On Wednesday, she won her 21st “Jeopardy!” game in a row, bringing her total earnings to $806,000.
I also have plans for what to do with my social media now that there aren't any game threads to post, I'll talk more about that in the coming days; one plan is to re-post some jokes I posted on my old Twitter that never got the recognition I thought they deserved lol
Hi! So, I’ll have lots to say about tonight’s game, but unfortunately a bigger priority has intervened. A childhood friend told me about Ohio SB 454, which would have devastating consequences for trans kids, and I’m flying to Columbus in the morning to do what I can to fight it
If certain famous billionaire authors were to advocate for “Whites only” spaces, we’d all see it as the hate speech that it is. But when they advocate for “cis only” spaces, the most powerful newspaper in the country rushes to their defense
I know I haven’t been posting a lot on here, but I’ve been traveling all over the country these past few weeks. This morning, for instance we’re getting ready to visit, well…
THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!
It’s hard to believe this is really happening
It's one of the best shows on TV, and I have no doubt that before too long you'll find another great champion to root for. If nothing else, watch Rhone get introduced tomorrow, they made a really great moment out of it! Once again, thanks, and I'll see you soon!
Ever since I got famous, I’ve had anxiety about somehow “saying the wrong thing” online, and having people turn against me. But Sinead O’Connor will always remind me that, if I truly believe what I say, it can never be wrong to say it, regardless of what everyone else thinks. RIP
Hi all! So, first off: I'm fine. But I got robbed yesterday, lost my ID, credit cards, and phone. I then couldn't really sleep last night, and have been dragging myself around all day trying to replace everything.
I’m so excited to watch a game of Jeopardy where I don’t know who wins! The last time that happened (non-tournament) was 11/9, the same day I taped my final episode!
Just looked up my Wikipedia profile (wouldn’t you?), and, um, if anyone wants to change the article’s profile picture, to one where I look less… like *this*, I’d be grateful
This was genuinely one of the biggest honors of my life. If I’m able to do even 0.01% as much good with my platform has Billie Jean King has done with hers, I’d be content
Answer: She’s won 40 consecutive games of
@Jeopardy
, and holds the second-longest win streak in the program's history.
Question: Who is
@Jeopardamy
?
How terrific to spend time with this champion during Pride Day at the
#USOpen
. 🏳️⚧️🌈
I hope you keep following me through whatever is still to come, and I hope those of you that have come (or come back) to Jeopardy because of me stick with it now that I'm gone
Second, while this is the end of my Jeopardy streak, it's not the end of Jeopardamy! As I've mentioned, I'm in talks about writing a book, and there's some other potential projects coming along, I'm taking a lot of meetings these days!
So, given that someone had to beat me eventually, I'm really glad it was him! I know you're sad to see me go, but I truly hope nobody takes any of that out on him, he's a deserving champion, and played a great game
This Jeopardy experience has changed my life, but when I think of 2021, it will always be the year Genevieve and I started dating first, and the year I was on Jeopardy second. Thanks, baby, I love you so so much!
So, I have a confession to make: I haven’t really watched Jeopardy for the last month or two. So I have only watched a couple of
@mattearoach
’s games. But it’s clear she’s a great player and person, and I look forward to meeting her as much as I fear competing against her!
Can’t thank Dennis enough for styling me for the
#glaadawards
! I’d never been styled for a red carpet before.
@fuggirls
, how do you think it turned out?
Hi all! Before I start diving into the Jeopardy content I know you're all here for, a quick reminder about voting! The stakes are high in every election, but they're particularly high these days for trans children.
And finally: thank you all for coming along with me on this journey! I wish I'd had the time to interact more with all of you, but I've read as many of your comments and messages as I could, and the overwhelming support and love you all have given me has meant the world to me
First, congratulations to Rhone! I talked about how this was the most fun group of contestants I played with, and Rhone was a big reason for that. I had multiple fun conversations with him, both before and after our game.
Just want to let you know that I'm aware I've been more silent on here than I anticipated. All my plans were based on the idea that a lot fewer people would want to talk to me once my episodes stopped airing, but that was decidedly not the case!
After six years, it's easy to take for granted the fact that I know my authentic self, that I don't have to spend my life in hiding, mired in fear and self-hatred, forced to perform the gender identity that society assigned to me. But it is, in fact, a miracle. 1/
Hi all! So, yesterday's and today's game threads will get up at some point, but as you might imagine my life is pretty crazy right now! But I did want to take a moment to acknowledge how honored and humbled I am to have been recognized in this year's
@glaad
Media Awards
Final(!) post-game thoughts:
- had a feeling all day that it was my last day. I can't explain it, and it wasn't really justified by my recent results, but I could just feel that something was missing.
Whenever someone asks me “Are you Amy Schumer?” I always say yes. It’s worked out so far, but one of these times someone will have a bunch of follow up questions about Trainwreck and things will get awkward
Zoha was the alternate on my last taping day who didn’t get selected to compete, so I was pulling for her. It’s a shame she couldn’t finish it, but the way she closed out Double Jeopardy was one of the more impressive comebacks I’ve seen, definitely a memorable performance!
Of all the things that have come out of my Jeopardy run, I will always be most proud of any good that I've managed to do for the trans community, so this acknowledgment means more than I can ever say
Huge congratulations to Hannah Wilson!!! Welcome to the Guild of Jeopardy Champion Trans Women, one of us will be in contact shortly to explain the secret handshake and so forth
We’re not trying to bother anyone. We’re not a threat. We just want to, like, post Jeopardy recaps on Twitter or whatever, same as anyone else. Thank you
Finally, some thanks. First off, I want to thank everyone at Jeopardy. Not just for the opportunity (and money!), but from day one, all of them were so great, the effort they give to make sure that every contestant is in the best possible position to succeed is really admirable
My life's been tough lately. It's been *good,* to be clear, about the best it's ever been, just tough. So I'm going to take it easy for a bit, and focus on low stakes tweets like "À la recherche du cell phones perdu" or "Every generation needs to discover Cutco for themselves"
But through all that, she's never hesitated in supporting me as I chase my dream. I would never have made it through taping without knowing that I'd fly back home to see her afterward, and that, while she hoped I won, she would feel the same about me whether I won 0 games or 100
To anyone else who feels this way: I would be *delighted* for my existence to not be a political issue. But as the GOP won’t give me that option, please direct your complaints to them, thanks!
I also want to thank some people in my life. First off, my mom; as I've often stated, she's the one that first fostered my curiosity and love of learning, and there's no way I'd be here without her
James may play a villain on tv, but in real life he’s a great guy, as enjoyable to be around as he is frustrating to play against. And I mean that; if I didn’t actually like him, I just wouldn’t say anything about him at all
No-kayfabe🧵
When my wife asked
@Jeopardamy
to participate in our fundraiser last year, Amy jumped at the chance to pay her own way to Las Vegas and volunteer.
It was my honor to share the Masters stage with an inspiration, a phenomenal Jeopardy player and an even better human.
And of course, most of all, I want to thank Genevieve. When we started dating, she knew I would be on Jeopardy, but she really didn't know what that meant. She'd never watched the show, so even once I started winning, she didn't really understand how big this was all going to get
So much of the credit for the show's success lies with the behind the scenes crew, in ways that aren't obvious to the viewer. But seeing "behind the curtain," you realize that it wouldn't be what it is without amazing people who work long hours to bring it to you every weeknight
I may have been overly ambitious in my plans for today. More Jeopardamy content is coming, but for now please enjoy Meep, standing guard in bed, and helping me with my social media
I’d rather be writing about Jeopardy! But if this bill passes, trans children in Ohio will be denied gender affirming medical care, and that is terrifying. So please, if you want more Jeopardy content from me, ask your elected officials to just leave trans people alone
New achievement reached! I'm referenced in today's Wall Street Journal crossword, by the fantastic constructor
@metabymatt
. Clearly my quest to become "America's Preeminent Amy" is well on its way. I'm coming for you, Schumer! (Poehler? Adams?)
I also want to thank some friends; they've all provided me with crucial emotional support during all this, but there are two I should call out specifically: first, Alison, who flew down to LA on my first taping day just to do my hair and makeup so I wouldn't have to hear about it
So, I doubt I'll even start writing tonight's game thread today, and if I keep winning, it may take a bit for me to get caught up. Thanks for your patience!
Nothing, NOTHING that anyone says or does can ever outweigh the truth I know in my heart, the truth I've lived for the last six years. Society can do whatever it wants, but I will never go back in the closet. I am a happy, proud, trans woman. Deal with it. Happy Pride, y'all /end
Moreover, she's had to put up with the internet's speculations about her, there's a bunch of clickbait articles out there claiming to have information on her (they all appear to be completely fabricated, but it's still unpleasant for her, she's never had a desire to be famous)
Remember, the last ToC game is still up on the official Jeopardy YouTube channel. If things are dragging or awkward with your family, feel free to pretend not to have seen it yet, and ask if they want to watch it with you! That’ll kill 20 minutes or so
Just slept for like 10 hours in my own bed, it had been a long week! Thanks to everyone who showed their support for me, and for trans kids, you don’t know how much it means. But now I’m excited to turn this account back to this amazing ToC that’s been going on!
More news: I've been nominated for a Queerty award! It's a fan vote, so if you'd like me to win, you can vote at once a day until 2/22. I'm up against some serious competition (tbh, I wouldn't vote for myself from this list lol), but you never know!
She's had to put up with a lot during this: first, being apart from me for five separate trips to LA. Then, once the episodes started airing, she's had to deal with my spending a ton of time on social media and doing media interviews
Quick update: So, to make this week even more fun, I also got sick! I'm feeling mostly better now, but I'm going to extend my posting break through tomorrow
And Hilary (
@hilaryhays
on Instagram), who's been helping me with my Instagram and doing an amazing job; I don't understand Instagram at all, but she clearly does, and her help has been invaluable.
I've done some more press, and I've also been taking a ton of meetings with different people that want to work with me in various ways, started to plan what charitable work I want to do, worked on a proposal for a book, a murder to plan, and Guilder to frame for it. I'm swamped!
For now, just know that a) I'm fine b) I fully intend to post full game threads for every episode, and c) I'm so so grateful for all the support I've received! See you soon!
FYI, I am not the first out trans person to appear on Jeopardy (a few friends have asked). There have been a handful before, including one, Kate Freeman, who was the first out trans champion on 12/16/20. My thanks to all of them for blazing the trail!
Because before the game, we're going to be picking up our new kitten!!!!! Meet the newest member of our household, Ladybug! She's a calico and very social and confident. We're pretty sure she's going to be bossing Meep around before too long!
The anniversary of Meep's adoption is coming up, and we're having a party! Sadly, you're not invited (Meep isn't big on strangers), but we need your help! We would like to serve Meep-themed mocktails and cocktails, but we don't know what they would be. That's where you come in!
Post-game thoughts (11/21):
-OMG you guys! Like, what? What?!?! This happened two months ago for me, I watched it happen last night, and I still can't believe it! But let's rewind...
It’s Amy Schneider Day in Oakland! I love this town so damn much, and to be honored like this, to be told that I’ve made Oakland proud… I’m genuinely getting emotional over here. 🥹
Today is Amy Schneider Day in Oakland!
@Jeopardamy
has made our city proud as the first transgender
@Jeopardy
contestant as well as the winningest woman and second-longest winning streak ever! & Amy doesn't just say she's from Oakland, she shouts it! Oakland ❤ you Amy!
Thanks! To any followers in Ohio, next year remember that, no matter who the Republican candidate is, one of their goals in office will be to make life harder for me personally. Don’t give them the chance!
In Ohio, we’re great at making a lot of things—steel, rubber, glass... and jeopardy champions!
Keep climbing
@Jeopardamy
. We’re rooting for you all the way.
To the best of my knowledge, only two games of Jeopardy have ever aired in which nothing was at stake, and I played in both of them.
So that’s something 🤷♀️
Reminder: in 2023, everything published in 1927 enters the public domain! Which is why, this year, I’ll *finally* be publishing my erotic fanfic based on Willa Cather’s classic novel, Death Comes For The Archbishop
Post-game thoughts (11/9/22):
-This is up a bit late because I had a watch party last night with some friends (I wore the outfit I'd *wanted* to wear on the episode!), and I'm still feeling the aftereffects this morning lol
I just get so tired of being told that my health and safety count less than cis people’s, because I’m weird and different, unlike normal innocent cis people
