It was an experimental treatment that had only been tested in mice. “It was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made, but doing nothing felt riskier,” the boy’s parents said. Following treatment, he now enjoys long walks, hikes, and has celebrated 2 birthdays- Stat article.

“A dream come true”: A child walks again after breakthrough treatment for a rare genetic disorder—thanks in part to NIH-funded research. Scientists at @nyulangone discovered that a CoQ10 precursor can help brain cells restore energy production, offering new hope for families

Man comes to the US from Lebanon. Starts out delivering pizzas, becomes a Nobel winning neuroscientist. Trump freezes his funding, he gets an email from China offering to move his lab “any city, any university I want" with guaranteed funding for 20 years. What are we doing?

Weakening Harvard is not in the national interests of the United States of America. If we are going to compete with China in the 21st century, we have to strengthen our best universities, not destroy them.

This breaks my heart 💔 Some of my most successful trainees were Pitt PhDs, and I helped run the neuroscience grad program for a few years - one of the best & largest in the country Scientific progress will halt if we stop training the next generation https://t.co/hhHMozx4ok

Funding from the @NIH contributed to the development of 354 out of 356 (99.4%) of the new drugs approved by the FDA between 2010 and 2019, and 🚨 100% 🚨 of FDA approved drugs btw 2010-2016. @NIH funding is the backbone of American biomedical innovation. #protecttheNIH

Agreed. One of the most devastating effects of @NIH an @NSF funding cuts is that it will severely limit our ability to train the next generation of American scientists putting this country at a disadvantage for years to come.

Many in biotech/private sector are boasting about their ways of funding and doing science But they are staffed with PhDs and postdocs we train in our @NIH and @NSF funded labs in universities With uni labs lacking funds to train, the private sector will be profoundly harmed

Trump's proposal is ILLEGAL & amounts to an indiscriminate funding cut for research centers of all sizes, NOT just Ivies. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, & derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.

Last year, $9B of the $35B that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted for research was used for administrative overhead, what is known as “indirect costs.” Today, NIH lowered the maximum indirect cost rate research institutions can charge the government to 15%, above

In our preprint, we found that U.S. presidential elections, sport events, & some holidays associate with sleep loss and flu risk-all amplified by certain DNA signatures of sleep behavior. So, to protect your health, get a flu shot & your sleep for Nov 5! https://t.co/aujckjvzGg
