The Home Affairs Select Committee met this week for a one-off session on asylum seekers and conversion to Christianity. There were two important things that came out of it that the press has largely ignored. Here's what they were: (short🧵) 1/

Happening now: so frightening for families. Many children in school, community connections, studying/volunteering locally. We'll welcome families to Newham but it won't mend trauma of being shunted from home with no notice. No human should have to face this.

ONE THOUSAND AND THREE HUNDRED vulnerable children without their parents, in the UK alone after taking a horrifying journey, and we utterly, utterly failed them. The way we do not see brown kids as kids. We barely see them as human. It is so fucking shameful.
🧵New findings reveal that over an 18-month period, over 1,300 refugee children in the UK were placed in adult settings at risk of abuse due to flawed age assessments. Today’s report from @RefugeeCouncil, @HelenBamber and @Humansforrights highlights the urgent need for change. /1

Well done to the Warm Welcome team and Warm Space Leaders for supporting the 400 asylum seekers due to be moved with a week's notice - as a result some people's moves are being postponed. Read more from @BBCWorld covering today's action

Proud of the Warm Spaces taking a stand with their neighbours today against the eviction of 400 asylum seekers with less than a week’s notice (and still no news on where they are being moved to!) -

When I was targeted by a group of far-right thugs in my constituency I was contacted by the then Prime Minister, Theresa May and had a meeting with the then Home Secretary, Sajid Javid - both within a couple of days. I’m just an opposition MP from the third party in parliament.
"I may be First Minister of Scotland, but in this situation I feel powerless" Scotland's First Minister, Humza Yousaf, tells @KathrynSamsonC4 he feels "helpless" watching his in-laws who are trapped in Gaza.

Today we are launching #Homewards, a five-year programme committed to demonstrating that it's possible to end homelessness in the UK. Having a home is more than just bricks and mortar. What does home mean to you?
