If you are losing your mind and your 4th of July is "ruined" because two tanks, a Bradley, a recovery vehicle and maybe a few HUMVEEs are going to be on the National Mall tomorrow, just stay in bed under the covers until it's over.
I said from the beginning to watch the Russian solider, that if they acted barbarically and murdered civilians, it would tip the world quickly against all of Russia. We are there now.
Genocide committed in Ukraine! Reports/photos show civilians w/their hands tied behind their backs, shot in head. Could be thousands. Mass graves. Massacre of Bucha, northwest of Kyiv. I pray the cover of all our newspapers tomorrow show front page. The U.S. must intervene!
AP NewsBreak: The U.S. Army has moved in recent weeks to discharge dozens of immigrant recruits and reservists who enlisted through a program that promised them a path to citizenship.

Another absolute superb artillery thread from

- it's mind boggling Russia releases this video to show their competence in attacking UKR arty. They first miss with a 6 lb drone munition, then let the UKR battery escape to the wood line, missing with their artillery
Want a 🧵 on artillery (arty)?
Just got off

where I also commented on this clip from the good ole COL Khodaryonok (who seems to have changed his tune since yesterday).
He's talking about how RU artillery is hitting UKR's new M777 arty pieces.
Except, he's full of BS. 1/
When a U.S. Air Force colonel left for the Vietnam War, his son waved goodbye at the Dallas Love Field Airport; it was the last time he saw his father alive.
52 years later, the colonel's remains were flown home to the same airport -- by his son.
Here's

I am an artillery guy, having fired rounds in combat, and this is a superb thread on the Artillery being sent to Ukraine. The towed Arty is better in this situation because it can get there faster than the "armored" self propelled Arty. Radar key too!
How 'bout a 🧵on the artillery sent to Ukraine, as the narrative is bouncing between "this is pretty good," to "it's still not enough," to "NATO/US needs to do more!"
The devil is in the details.
(As a former tanker I'm not an expert on arty, but I've used it in combat) 1/10
If this is the list of units going, not a single combat arms unit (infantry, armor, arty) included. Engineers, MPs and Aviation, as well as other logistical troops. There will be no war at the border.

If there is one war footing the US needs to be on right now and that’s our cyber defenses - government, industry, critical infrastructure - all will likely come under attack in the coming days. SOCs need to be ready.
If this is correct, the Ukraine military has destroyed about 100 tanks in just the past 4 days - that's 2.5 BTG's a day. I don't see how Russian can sustain these kinds of loses for much longer.

This just not true - the straw-man was not war, but a better deal. The problem now is if the Iranians decide to cheat or walk, our only enforcement then is a war. The deal was about a legacy.
The Republicans forgot why we cut a deal with Iran; it was that or war. Trump campaigned on an end to stupid wars, but it looks like he'll push us into another one with Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State.

Kim Jong-un, North Korea’s leader, has removed a key obstacle to negotiations with Washington by no longer demanding that American troops be removed from South Korea as a condition for denuclearizing his country, said South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
Who in their right mind in this administration thought this was a good picture to release to show US resolve at this moment? It’s like they are not even trying.
This morning, the President and Vice President met with their national security team and senior officials to hear updates on the draw down of our civilian personnel in Afghanistan, evacuations of SIV applicants and other Afghan allies, and the ongoing security situation in Kabul.
Someone decided to pull the trigger - including a military lawyer. Was it ultimately a civilian politician or a military officer? We need more information besides “sorry”.
Please, all you military, political and diplomatic experts, stop talking about a “No Fly Zone” over Ukraine, unless you are ready to begin WWII, lose American pilots, and are looking to have a cruise missile find it’s way to Western European city. It’s an act of war on our part.
Here’s an idea - instead of having a parade in DC, send a company from every branch in the active service to participate in a local parade (municipalities choice) during 2018 - Memorial Day, 4th of July - connect them to Americans.

Smart analysis; it’s a numbers game now and Putin’s in real danger of losing his Army for a long time. The next set of Russians fighting will literally be men who were driving cabs two weeks ago. Conscripted to their death.
These issues underline how Russia had to achieve its goals quickly in Ukraine to have success. Russia invaded with 75% of its maneuver battalions (probably 80% now) + Rosgvardia. The US invaded Iraq in 2003 with 37% of its maneuver battalions, which meant it had units to rotate.

The only reason the President should speak tonight is if this is escalating because of US casualties - and only after we have actually responded. Anything else threatens our response.
Regardless of our desire to eventually allow Iran to have nuclear weapons, Israel will go it alone to make sure they don’t. Military conflict is inevitable.
