My new book—FLUKE: Chance, Chaos, and Why Everything We Do Matters—is out now! Linking chaos theory to humanity, it explains why our lives—and societies—are swayed by random, accidental, arbitrary forces, and how to better live with that knowledge.

The fact that this election is close is forever a stain on America. How much of a stain, we’ll soon find out. But an authoritarian felon, sexual abuser, who already incited a violent mob to attack the Capitol in a failed plot to steal an election…should never have been viable.

Trump already straight up lying and laying the groundwork to reject the election result is itself further proof he must be kept out of any real power. He’s an authoritarian demagogue and will do everything he can to torch America’s institutions to save himself.

When Trump won in 2016:. 3 out of 10 Americans voted Trump.3 out of 10 voted Clinton. 4 out of 10 didn’t vote. Remind everyone you know to go vote! And volunteer if you can. One day to protect our democracy.

Republicans are in such a panic that they are literally emailing themselves imaginary polling results and passing them off as legitimate. @RyanAFournier you’re a hack.

Honestly, this election is like a giant social experiment to test human nature, run between someone who routinely taps into the darkest sides of humanity and someone who is running a campaign literally with the central messages of unity, shared values, and lifting each other up.

Trump: "Guys like Adam Schifty Schiff, these are corrupt people. Watermelon head. He's got the smallest neck I've ever seen. I don't know how the hell it can hold up that enlarged watermelon head. What an ugly guy both inside and out."

The Iowa poll was shocking precisely because of herding. In theory, polls should deviate around a “true” value by a fair bit, which is what makes polling aggregators helpful. But if they all herd, then the aggregators are just aggregating adjusted data, tweaked to fit the herd.

Swing state polls are herding, in which nobody wants to release data that deviates from the conventional wisdom. That’s possible, as I explain here, because polls are now based on a wide array of subjective human judgments that may or may not be correct.

A lot of very smart people are trying to get polling right. Here's why they might still be wrong. Plus: I offer my foolhardy prediction for the winner of the US presidential election.

One hell of a contrast between the closing message of the Harris campaign and the hate and bigotry from Madison Square Garden from the Trump campaign.
