Delighted to share our work on new immunotherapy approaches for #autoimmune diseases. Therapies that target CD28 costimulation impair Treg as well as pathogenic T cells, but it may be possible to avoid this by co-provision of IL-2. 1/6 @NatureComms

The golden era of type 1 diabetes treatment has begun - finally, we have the first of, hopefully, many treatments to address the immune dysfunction at the root of the condition 🙌🏻
Breaking news! 🎉 The first ever immunotherapy drug for type 1 diabetes, teplizumab, has been licensed for use in the UK. Today, the UK’s medicine regulator (MHRA) confirmed teplizumab is safe and effective for people in the early, symptom-free stage 👉 https://t.co/4dIs13xJiD

MHRA approval of teplizumab! One step closer to immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes…
After more than 30 years of research funded by Breakthrough T1D, we have arrived at a historic moment. Today, teplizumab has been licensed for use in the UK by the MHRA.🚨 This breakthrough treatment is the first of its kind to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in people

T cells do the heavy lifting when it comes to the anti-tumor action of checkpoint immunotherapy. But do antibodies play a role too? 🗞️In the news: #Type1diabetes immunotherapy - teplizumab. It can delay the development of type 1 when used in its early, symptomless stages – before a full diagnosis. The first adult in the UK has been treated with it, but right now it’s only available in research settings.

Out today in @ScienceMagazine! We show that rising self-antigen levels during infection give self-reactive T cells an opportunity for enhanced TCR signalling. Regulatory T cells of matched specificity counteract this, thereby preventing autoimmunity.
