Speaking to people in Stafford today, it was clear: they want change.
They want to stop the Tory chaos which is costing working people through higher taxes, soaring mortgages and crippling energy bills.
Only Labour will deliver economic security. Vote for it on Thursday 4 July.
Cannot thank everyone enough for coming to my launch this weekend. It was brilliant to have so many activists who travelled from far and wide, in Stafford, supporting our campaign!
Particular thanks to
@RuthAnderson
,
@RichParkerLab

@lisanandy

So honoured to be standing alongside such brilliant women.

This campaign is so important. Some stores in Stafford constituency have seen a 400% increase in violence towards shop workers in the last year alone.

25 years ago today Labour introduced the minimum wage. The grey faces opposed it then saying it would kill jobs. It didn’t. It changed lives.
But there is more to do. That is why the next Labour government will start a New Deal for Working People.
Brilliant to be at the launch of Retrofit West, hearing from

A lot to say about the budget, but this has really disappointed me. Only a 6 month extension to help the most desperate and vulnerable. No long term stability for authorities.
I’m tired of a government without solutions, only inadequate sticking plasters.
General election now
We're extending the Household Support Fund with an extra £500m.
Ensuring the most vulnerable households in England continue to get help with the cost of essentials like food and energy.
Given the budget we inherited, and the position local authorities are in due to a lack of funding, delivering a balanced budget while managing to increase investment in priorities such as children’s services is a real achievement.
Nevertheless, general election now 🌹
Figures today show a 146% increase in childcare vacancies.
There’s simply not enough staff or places - meaning parents are missing out on work.
The Conservatives have failed to grapple the key issue impacting their flagship childcare policy: the workforce.
We need fair pay
Thrilled to be endorsed by

Appalled that Stafford's MP
@theodoraclarke
chose to vote against making Westminster a safer place for staff working there.
Last night, in a free vote, she voted against banning those who've been charged with committing a violent or sexual offence.
This is long overdue. The hunger games of funding allocation is both inefficient and ineffective.
Often the most needy places are passed over for political reasons. From a rich selection, it’s one of the worst things about the conservative government,

This is appalling. We’re also seeing increased abuse and violence towards council workers too - many now wear body cams for protection.
The increased neighbourhood police and PCSOs Labour have committed to can’t come soon enough. Everyone deserves to be safe at work.
Shocking 50% increase in violence & abuse against shopworkers. Labour will put 13,000 more neighbourhood police & PCSOs on streets + new law against shopworker assaults to bring security back to our town centres. Shameful that Tories keep voting against it
Having spent a good chunk of my career working in Wales, with Welsh Government, I know first hand the difference Labour in power makes to people’s lives. Absolute honour to hear from First Minister Mark Drakeford 🌹🏴🌹

We asked people if they were better off than they were 14 years ago, and their answers were clear
The Tories have failed our economy and left working people worse off.
Its time for a change🌹
Extraordinary.
He can’t answer this because even he knows (though is obviously too terrified to admit) there isn’t a single thing which has improved under the conservatives. 14 years. Thats their legacy, they made things worse for us all.
General election now 🌹
I love West Yorkshire, and I am so proud to have been re-elected as your mayor!
Thank you for putting your faith in me to finish what we started, building a brighter region that works for all.
In light of the £500m rumoured to be suddenly appearing today (around 1/8 of what’s needed), please can I point you toward this graph from Barnet Council.
Remember it when you vote in the next general election. Systemic defunding of services has always been a political choice
It’s been more than a decade since Barnet Council predicted that care services for the elderly & services that protect vulnerable children would take up so much of their budget that there would be no money left to fund other local services
It’s happening across England right now
So proud to be endorsed and supported by

Had the best weekend enjoying some fundraiser fun, meeting amazing and inspiring women, and learning new skills - some more successfully than others 😬
For as RBG famously said, ‘Women belong in all places where decisions are being made, and where there are tiles to be grouted’
I know I say this a lot, but this is not a serious government.
We’re in a country where nothing works, and this man has decided to invent a ‘war on drivers’ to fight.
We need a general election now.
We are a nation of drivers.
Most of us use a car every day and, for many, life would be difficult without their car.
But too often, drivers feel under attack.
That changes today with a long-term plan to improve drivers' experience on the road.
Here’s how 👇🧵
Doorsteps across Stafford, Eccleshall, and the Villages ‘we can’t get doctors and dentists appointments, the cost of living is too much, we can’t get childcare places, crime is rising…’
Conservative government response - ‘you’re talking the country down’

At this point it’s probably more helpful to point out any Conservative plan, for any sector, which experts think might work. Going through the ones which no one has any faith in will take us all day!

@sgloscouncil
Honoured beyond belief. Thanks to all the residents who voted for us, and all the count staff tonight who were brilliant. Ready to get to work 🌹
Shocked, I tell you, shocked that a plan announced with no engagement with the sector, and without putting the proper support in place to implement it, is failing.
This is a hugely important piece of infrastructure for Uk parents. It’s not good enough to work in this way.
Rishi Sunak’s flagship childcare pledge is in jeopardy due to delays in allocating funding, staff shortages and issues with the IT system behind the scheme ⬇️
Hunt’s comment is so weird.
His government passed a Cross party amendment which stated that childcare should be classed as infrastructure, like roads or schools are.
We know that childcare is essential to the wellbeing families, as well as local and national economies.
The Chancellor thinks knowing how many nurseries and childcare places there are would be like “Stalinist Russia”.
Does he think Ofsted should stop counting to hide the fact that childcare provider numbers have fallen 3,316 in a year?
Today is International Workers' Memorial Day. A day where we remember the dead and pledge to fight for the living
Labour’s New Deal will empower unions to make workplaces safe, put mental health on par with physical health at work, and ensure the right to safety at work

Our schools are already in crisis, having to become the safety net in the last 13 years as local govt funding has been slashed. They’re now also in a recruitment crisis, which will take years to rectify.
The next govt has huge challenges to address - everything feels broken.
This is really interesting. I was at a presentation recently which said Domestic Abuse had dropped by 12% in my area over the last year, but it didn’t make sense to me at all as there was no evidence as to why that might have happened…. Now wondering if it’s linked to this.
I believe the 10% drop in police-recorded
#DomesticAbuse
published last week is artificial, due to new rules allowing police to count fewer crimes.
Administrative ease should not be prioritised at the expense of domestic abuse victims.
This is simply not good enough. 1/2

You would not have thought arranging a photo op for Sunak at a youth centre that involved actual, you know, young people in the shot would have been beyond the talents of the No 10 comms unit, but here we are:
I made this part of my plan for stafford because in the last year along stafford has lost over 200 nursery places for children.
Members have told me affordability of childcare is affecting their decision on whether they can even have children. It doesn’t have to be this way.
👀 Education Secretary Gillian Keegan on Sky this morning can’t guarantee the government will keep its flagship free childcare promise, saying ‘we are trying to deliver it….we are very confident’ but she is ‘not in control of moving parts’
The Labour Party is drawing up plans to create thousands of new nursery places for the under fives as part of a signature offer to working parents before the next election ⬇️
This hits hard. My brother and I have been able to change our lives because we were able to go to university, an opportunity which was denied to our parents. Essential that the Labour Party always stands for working class aspiration, whatever that aspiration is 🌹🌹🌹
"I never thought that I would hear a modern conservative PM say that 50% of our children going to university was a false dream."
Sir Keir Starmer adds "the solution is not the levelling down of working-class aspirations to go to university".
📺 Sky 501
Who knew that this guy, the architect of so many of the issues we’re facing today (austerity, huge rise in food banks, local govt collapsing due to underfunding, schools collapsing due to RAAC, NHS on its knees) is the solution to all of our problems?!
General election now 🌹
Our job in 97 was to rebuild a crumbling public realm.
In 64 it was to modernise an economy left behind by the pace of technology.
In 45 a new Britain had to be built out of the trauma of collective sacrifice.
In 2024 it'll have to be all 3.
It's time to get our future back.
Absolutely outstanding that
@votedannorris
has committed to this funding for care leavers.
@sglabour
want to support care leavers to thrive and this is a really meaningful step to helping that happen. 🌹🌹🌹
One of our manifesto pledges was "getting a better deal for children in care and care leavers, for example with travel concessions and membership of organisations."
A huge thanks to Labour's
@votedannorris
for enabling us to fulfil it 🚌

I want to state that I'm on some pretty strong medication right now and genuinely thought when I woke up from a nap that this was all a dream (obvs mean nightmare).

The Conservatives have crashed the British economy and run our public services into the ground. It’s time to get Britain’s future back. Labour has a plan to get our NHS back on its feet in Stafford – including our NHS dentistry rescue plan and a return of the family doctor.
