Still buzzing from Prof. Landweber’s visit! Her talk on Oxytricha’s mind-blowing genome rearrangements sparked so much discussion and inspiration. Huge thanks to everyone who joined & to our sponsors for their support. Stay tuned for more RNA @LandweberLab @Columbia @CamBiochem

Excited to share our work on the structure of a natural RNA nanocage formed by the ROOL noncoding RNA, originally discovered by Zasha Weinberg and @RonBreaker many years ago. Great collaboration with Xiaobin Ling, Jinbiao Ma, and @KorostelevLab!
With our RTI colleagues Xiaobin Ling and @WenwenFang2, we report cryo-EM structures of enigmatic bacterial RNA nanocages made of long-noncoding ROOL RNAs. Octamers are held by "A-minor staples" and other interactions. Congrats Xiaobin, Dima et al! https://t.co/kThZa5hsMS

Congrats Blake et al.! Programmable break-and-repair RNA editing is nicely reminiscent of the original guide RNA-mediated RNA editing in trypanosomes by U insertion and deletion, where "guide" RNAs all began:
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
A class of small RNA molecules possibly involved in RNA editing is present in the mitochondrion of Leishmania tarentolae. These "guide" RNA (gRNA) molecules are encoded in intergenic regions of the...

the secret to a strong endowment? Get thousands of people to pray for it. Surprised Princeton asked all students & parents to recite this at opening exercises. Made some uncomfortable. Could add grants and prizes. Pre-tenure I thought that sacrificial courage meant work all night
