For anyone who thinks history is a resource to be drawn down and depleted like oil or coal. It is a fully interpretive discipline in which the crafting of narrative is entirely embedded in what the historian does. Every historian will interpret things differently.

New soccer mad post on our Helmut Käser piece which involves the use of microhistorical techniques to look at a business trip by the former #FIFA Secterary General. https://t.co/vE91zSX69l

Haigh should simply not have to resign - the conviction was minor, and is spent. Further she has been a reasonably ok transport secretary, and now will probably be replaced by someone with no interest in the brief. https://t.co/cNM8Bor05n

Haigh's departure is the first cabinet resignation under Sir Keir Starmer's government.

If you want to take your understanding of British transport history further, I am available to take on PhD students at Aston! Whatever your subject may be, I'm open to having conversations about your project - do get in touch. N.B. sadly there is no funding available.

Looks like a concession that the 'commercial logic' of running university cafes unsubsidised doesn't actually generate profits.

This lunch time members of the Management School took part in a protest against the sudden closure of the Courtyard Cafe by University leaders without any consideration of the impact on staff and students. An open letter has been shared detailing concerns https://t.co/aQ2HVw4UAE

Can you believe that in its various incarnations, Transport Tycoon is 30 years old? An amazing business and strategy game based on a semi-realistic transport world, its become @OpenTTDNews which is still constantly improved and never gets old. https://t.co/C2u0Kh723C

Here's my statement on today's non-apology from @LordPeterHendy: https://t.co/RBPbiSH19e Hendy is only apologising for the tone of his letter - nothing on his subsequent threats by email - to calm the anger of a supply chain he was seemingly willing to threaten and cajole.

The current intense competitive rivalry in cricket currently provides an interesting window into what a truly competitive industry in other sports more subject to the IOC lead monopoly framework of governing bodies and national leagues would look like. https://t.co/o2J1A9iN1U

@LouHaigh Taking some pleasure in the fact that @LordPeterHendy‘s job now is to implement @GarethDennis’s recommendations. It’ll keep me going while I dig into yet more savings to pay the bills this month. Best, Gareth’s wife

@MOHJournal It includes windows into the worlds of air travel, contemporary Northern Ireland, and swinging London, based on a scrapbook kept by the man himself, and demonstrates the potential of scrapbooks for archival ethnography.

🏏Nearly 30 million hits for @BBCSport audio commentary or live text pages on county cricket (incl a few women’s regional games) this year. That’s not including the many more who access BBC commentary though the county video streams. Thanks to all who’ve tuned in/logged on 👍🏼

Architecture was understood by Le Corbusier to be the play of light upon space. Its not an added extra in an engineering project such as this but an integral part of it. More think thank nonsense.

Unlike cars, it's not yet clear what role public transport will play in decarbonisation. Our take: buses and trains probably won't make a big dent in climate targets, but we should be worried that passengers may miss out on the big savings EVs bring. https://t.co/dCCJzMA8MX

Critical in universities too where a huge and under-estimated part in doing well in NSS etc is good admin staff who are well paid, and retained.

A big trend of the last 20 years has been admin headcount reduction, and I am *convinced* it's a big part of our productivity crisis. Instead of one admin on 25k, you make 10 staff on 2-6x the pay do admin they're slow/inefficient at, costing vastly more. True in NHS/gvt/corps.

Terrible idea if true - inflation link it instead. We should be expanding it by allowing you to use it on unlimited buses per hour. Labour seem to think municipalisation will solve all the problems. But you need a strategy too.

This is so sad. I don't think this scheme cost the government that much in the grand scheme of things, and it saved everyday passengers so much money.
