@DisabledEliza
I am so sorry someone on our railway said this to you. Maybe they’d had a bad day at work, or in their life; I’d like to think they weren’t always like that. You’re entitled to the service everyone else is - and the railway’s job is to help you get where you want to go. Peter
First train through the Eastern bore of Gasworks Tunnel at Kings Cross for many years; Eastern Region of NR increasing capacity on the East Coast Main Line, building back greener, and creating economic growth, jobs, housing and social cohesion.
Today is 15 years since the 7th July bombings. I will be thinking of the bereaved and injured, and also of the heroism and selflessness of those who went to help the dying and injured; and also of our magnificent London transport staff, who kept the buses and Tube going. Peter
Tomorrow, where it’s safe to do so, my Network Rail colleagues and I will observe a one minute silence at 1000 in remembrance of Gareth Delbridge and Michael Lewis, who died after being struck by a train last week. We mourn them, and send our love to their family and friends.
This is drivel. Our vegetation programme reduces the danger of reduced signal sighting for drivers, and leaf fall, leading to trains sliding past signals, as well as reduced adhesion leading to late trains. And it’s not secretive at all; see our website. Crap journalism.
If you are a buses person please join the challenge of posting your favourite bus photo. Just a picture, no description. Please copy the text in your status, post a picture and look at some great memories/pictures.
A privilege to be at the unveiling of the Windrush monument at Waterloo station this morning; and a privilege for
@networkrail
to entrusted to look after it.
@FloellaBenjamin
made a wonderful speech of hope and reflection.
We had a great day at
@ImberbusUK
on Saturday. Thanks to all those who travelled and helped! The fares all go the charity - when we know what we have takes I’ll post it here. Peter
Our brave mailroom colleague Kevin, who dealt with the potential incendiary device sent to us at Waterloo a couple of weeks ago. Andrew Haines and I were proud to give him an award and our heartfelt thanks. Peter
@networkrail
Today is
#RailwayDay
- celebrating the
#railwayfamily
- women and men who keep the trains running safely whatever the circumstances. Thank you to all of you - operators, engineers, managers, contractors,
@BTP
- everyone!
@LeonDaniels
and I took the RTW out for an airing today with its two new front tyres, which is why we had to go to Thurrock last week! A lovely run out. Here we are in front of my house!
Tonight we clapped, hooted, rang bells and blew whistles for NHS workers, and all the other public service workers, who have to be at work when we’re safe at home! Including, of course, the

Some months ago, this was on Twitter as the English side had fallen down; it was fixed by
@networkrail
but I’ve only just got around to posting it. Apologies!
I’m afraid we are cancelling Imberbus 2020; it’s too uncertain to plan & so many of the individuals and organisations that support us have more pressing things to do; it would be hard to ask now for the generosity we get every year. Looking forward to Imberbus car-free day 2021!
Imberbus 2019 has just distributed £25,000 to the Friends of St Giles’s church, Imber, the Royal British Legion, and charities nominated by bus companies! I will post a link to the details shortly! Back in 2021! Peter
Today a major step-change in accessibility for passengers at Euston; British Sign Language messages on 28 new screens around the station. Network Rail is committed to making rail more accessible for all. Well done to everyone involved. Peter
Before the HSTs disappear, a last ride from Bath Spa to Paddington. Thanks to Driver Les Pitt and Driving Standards Manager Andy Limbert for a great trip on the 0813. Peter
Waterloo subway to IMAX; newly renovated, now minus graffiti/fire/faeces damage but with the poem enhanced. Go and enjoy it, or sign the petition at if you think our staff and contractors have ‘vandalised’ it!
1/3 Yesterday was the annual carol service at
@gilesimber
- I handed a cheque for £9408.86 to Neil Skelton of the Friends of St Giles’. We made a net £35000+ from
@ImberbusUK
in 2023. Full list of beneficiaries to follow:
Drivers and operators whose vehicles hit railway bridges can expect that the Traffic Commissioners will consider their fitness to hold a vocational licence - route planning isn’t an optional activity for professional drivers and operators!

Carry on, Paul. You do a great job. Just block them; I have had to do that to loads of abusive people. Then take no notice. Best wishes Peter
A brief visit to celebrate with the Prime Minister and colleague Adam NR’s reinstatement of the Carbis Bay sign made of seashells, so long a feature of the station, and the £m new track to St Ives.

Great!
@NetworkRailCML
and
@svrofficialsite
have signed a legal partnership, the first of its kind in Britain. It's a great example of how heritage and modern railways can work together to achieve mutual benefits. Read more here
Enjoying the Far North line from Brora to Inverness yesterday, having spoken at the Friends of the Far North line AGM. Deserves to be as well known and travelled as the Kyle or the West Highland line!
This shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a lorry struck overhead lines, causing the disruption this week between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea. Please take care around level crossings and railways, if you drive a vehicle check you know the height restrictions.
And at the risk of further controversy, the finest cross border railway bridge, between Devon and the one and only county of Cornwall!

Tonight, Mark Carne hands over to Andrew Haines after 4 1/2 years of one of the most difficult jobs in Britain. He’s revolutionised the railway’s casual attitude to the safety of the staff and contractors who work on it, and also irrevocably devolved the NR structure. Well done!
🚂 In 1962 Wilston Samuel Jackson became Britain's first black train driver, going on to drive Flying Scotsman and The Elizabethan.
To commemorate his remarkable career, we've unveiled a plaque today at London King's Cross station.

I, and all of us at Network Rail, are really sorry for this morning’s engineering overrun. We know it will have caused huge inconvenience. Our CEO and the Wessex senior team are working hard with SWR to sort things out today, and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Delighted to launch the refreshed, iconic Rail Alphabet 2 for Network Rail at the exhibition honouring Margaret Calvert at the Design Museum yesterday!

As a Trustee, please support the
@ltmuseum
as it's lost over £1M since closure back in March; we’ve launched an appeal as there is no central Government funding. Please help with donations: It’s the best museum in London!
We get up to 10 a day! Nearly every one delays passengers and freight! HGV and PCV drivers and operators - check your height (or face your vocational licence being withdrawn)!

@holdmch
Thanks for the cynicism; from me, and from a lot of people trying very hard to change the previous profligate culture from structures and managers no longer there. We’ll carry on trying to do better, whether you or Ford or others care or not. Peter
Very sad about Bill McAlpine’s death. A huge supporter of the railway, past, present and future; great supporter of the Railway Heritage Trust, and the real saviour of Flying Scotsman - his crucial role much under recognised. Network Rail’s condolences to Judy and family.
Support your local heritage railway! The UK’s heritage lines are reopening in a Covid-19 secure way and need your support! and please use our national network to get there! Peter
