Disagree. D.C. did this to itself. Tone-deaf @councilofdc lacking in restraint. Overly politicized and overly ideological approach to a critical reform effort that otherwise comes with valuable and necessary changes in the law. They could've/should've worked this out.

Our Democratic President is actively undermining the District’s local government and setting back our DC Statehood efforts. A terrible decision that opens the door to further Congressional meddling and threats to our local self determination.

This is neither endorsement nor rebuke of @charlesallen . But this recall is a joke. The hysteria and demagoguery behind a legitimate crime epidemic speaks to the clueless notion that politicians control what happens in the streets. If they do, why not look citywide? Or inward?

How many Republicans are backing the push to recall Charles Allen? The list is so long it wouldn’t fit into a screenshot I found that the recall campaign is overwhelmingly funded by lobbyists of both parties, undermining claims of its grassroots support:

The recall is bullshit. R or D, get engaged, and get informed. To blame an epidemic decades in the making on one man, much less one man in one ward, is idiotic.

Rs live & work in Ward 6. They pay taxes. They worry about family safety, same as Dems do. Shame on disparaging this grassroots effort. Ward 6 is diverse in many ways. There are a lot more Rs in it than simply on voter rolls. Citizens of all ideological stripes are fed up.

I am in no way defending @charlesallen or his policies. But this recall is politically motivated, vindictive, and fueled by people who don't live in Ward 6 yet want to stop a guy they don't like from seeking citywide office. It's cynical, wasteful, badly conceived. It will fail.

@keshinil The recall mechanism is a tool for voters remove an elected official--for any reason, including policies that are out of step with constituents. The beauty of the process is that every voter gets to play. If you want to keep the official, then you work for that person.

The he said/she said take by @JackEvansWard2 and his lawyer and @ChmnMendelson is a huge distraction from the core issue: What is @councilofdc doing to reconcile the findings that Evans played a consulting role for people with business before the Council? It's really that simple.

Here, Mr. King speaks to the elusive nature of our gun crisis: The impulse to injure/kill another person. Where does it come from? What causes it? How can we address it, treat it, lessen it, eliminate it as a societal menace? I don't hear city leaders talking in these terms.

Mayoral control of schools gave the mayor the power to control the real estate. Just like DMPED. It was about the real estate. It was always about the real estate.

DC closing down and selling off their schools is going to go down as one of the most short sighted decisions in the history of this city. All to the gain of for-profit education. Truly shameful.

IMP piece. Shows a pattern of the Mayor saying she will do something & “ordering” agencies to do it. But then noenforcement, data collection or transparency on progress & facts. Leaving the public in the dark & some-incl MINORS -at risk of harm. Thx @jeffreyanders19 & @kdrkrepp

The problem with @DCAttorneyGen is he, like his predecessor, is AWOL on public corruption. And he steers clear of the Mayor. He refers matters to USAO, loans them lawyers but avoids anything messy. He's supposed to rep the people! Wide latitude to do that.

If you live in D.C. and give half a damn about what D.C. is made of then this story will make you angry. Though she has had some help from her predecessors, @MayorBowser will go down in D.C. history as "The Displacement Mayor." There is no disputing it. She will own that mantle.

Forget reporter hours and efforts spent over a 2 year period, any idea of how many PUBLIC$$$ were spent investigating him? Then to have the public help finance his campaign on top of it all? It’ll be years—if anyone bothers—discovering all the things with his fingerprints on ‘em.

I feel bad for parents of @dcpublicschools students. The city has done irreparable harm to its neighborhood school system. They gave up on it. Left it for dead. The maze of options may sound nice, if you are able to capitalize on it, but from the sidelines it looks hellish.

No. The recall is cynical, exploitative, manipulative, intellectually dishonest. You wanna recall a singular figure? Why on earth wouldn’t it be the Imperial Mayor? Money, ill will, a coalition of opportunists and malcontents and lust for political annihilation is what this is.

@JeffAndersonDC1 That is the nature of democracy. I don't see your point. We vote out politicians for this very reason, regardless if "others are getting a pass". I think you have an issue with recalls, a legitimate democratic right between elections. I feel you're trying to poison the well here.
