Capitol Hill residents had to evacuate today— it wasn’t just the LOC and the house office buildings who did. We were affected today and on April 2 and especially on January 6. We live here! We exist! We pay taxes but have no full representation! NATIONAL REPORTERS TAKE NOTE!
But like, hear us out— what about activating this space year-round and give different makers around the DC area a showcase and support all while keeping people coming to downtown for art, music and FUN?!
Not to mention, even if you make it bigger and better, Potomac/VT is yellow line *only*
Can you imagine the game day snarls? Can you imagine people who have to go to the airport in game day? It’s gonna be a shortsighted mess all around
Just because you want to build new complex in VA doesn’t mean that VA can actually withstand that complex. The transportation infrastructure alone is going to be hell to whip into shape from Route 1 to Metro, to balancing the existing traffic from Amazon, DCA, etc. It’s a lot!
It’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to be angry and frustrated and scared and it’s okay to take a mental health day or two. It’s okay to be afraid and it’s okay to be fed up and it’s okay to overeat and undereat. And if you want to @ me in cute pet photos, you can do that too.
Hey
@RepRWilliams
— how about not parking your car where it’s blocking the bus lanes every single morning? While you’re at it, pay your fines. We’re sure the state of Texas wouldn’t want to be embarrassed.
This is a reminder to go shop at 7 River Mart and support your local corner store. And if you’re a neighbor around 10th and C NE, check your cameras if you see anything.
Sam is just the sweetest, kindest corner store owner, but this week, he got robbed and beat up a bit by a couple of teenagers. Nice to see the neighborhood come out and support him.
It’s too bad about Foxtrot stores’ sudden decision to leave the DC area effective immediately (feel bad for the workers especially) but the store didn’t make 100% sense to us. Anyone else feel that way?
Capitol Hill, the neighborhood, is fine and will be fine. We take care of each other. Capitol Hill, the metonym, the seat of power, is suffering today and our hearts hurt for those who are hurt and scared.
Spotted on the Hill. Our hearts are heavy and in mourning. How many more people have to die like this? This is NOT NORMAL.

We've lost our share of followers for BEGGING people to please leash their dogs at the park. So, if you won't do it for yourself, your dog or us (🥺), then do it FOR THE BEAVERS or all the other wildlife you may encounter.
NEWS RELEASE: On Sunday, May 14, an off-leash dog attacked a wild beaver in Rock Creek Park near Boulder Bridge. Due to the severity of its injuries, the beaver was euthanized. Help protect our resources and keep pets leashed at all times.
What’s this?! Not just one but TWO pizza ovens (and a portapotty) outside of
@pupatella_pizza
this afternoon! What a glorious sight. Can’t wait until those ovens are transforming dough into magic and feeding the neighborhood. 🍕
A neighbor in NE posted this sign on her yard. Someone stole the pumpkins she was growing to make pie for Thanksgiving sometime last night. Have any leads? Or, if you have pie pumpkins, can you share them and fill the void in her menu? Thank you to reader Emily W. for sharing.
1/3: Federal offices in the DC area are CLOSED.
Emergency and telework-ready employees must follow their agency’s policies.

I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings.
If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.

We're glad that after 5 years of sitting there, vacant and rotting, RFK stadium may be allowed to be demolished. But a Commanders stadium is not the right fit for the area-- please turn it into parks, a sports complex, a vibrant part of the city.
#HailNO
No offense, but this isn’t something we’ve never seen before. Everyone in the area has been personally victimized by a plugged-up 395, so this is, basically, Monday.
"They [police] blocked all the exits off," truckers are now yelling over the CB radio while on I-395N near the 14th St. bridge. One trucker pledges to "plug this f*cking highway up...completely."
Alert: According to a reliable source, we learned that the 7th Hill space has been leased by a family from Italy and will reopen as a pizzeria in July (they hope) or August. Exciting news! 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕

While I appreciate the geography lesson, I was strictly referring to the fact that route 50 does not appear to be in this photo because it’s under several feet of water.
@theHillisHome
Some folks in D.C. need to bone up on regional geography. Route 50, known in some places as New York Ave. and others as the John Hanson Highway, connects the District and Annapolis. It runs through Prince George's County, which, incidentally, has a larger population than DC.
What DC bar opinion do you have that is going to land you in this situation?
(Yes, you can include ones that aren’t actually controversial but feel like it to you)
Capitol Hill turned out to run, play, & sing today.
I do love this neighborhood.
If you’re not from DC, please remember that 712,000+ Americans citizens live & work here, many of whom are not in the federal government, media, or military.
The DC vaccine mandate kicks in this weekend. My office will not comply. We will not show papers. We will not order takeout from restaurants that require papers for dine in. We will get our food from Virginia or we will bring it to work. Shame has befallen our nation’s capital.
Really appreciate seeing all the restoration work going on outside
@UnionStationDC_
The paint they use to cover up the ink stains actually turns to stone!
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the ice cream trucks at the National Mall have good hand-dipped cones and some days that’s all you really need. 🍦
Look at that! The SCOTUS is totally fenced in. They were putting some final touches on the fence as of 9:30 this morning. An entire city block (and beautiful gardens) out of bounds.
@alexisjreports
Capitol Hill is the best neighborhood mostly separated by a fence from the western end of town 😉
Oh, and it’s metro, not the subway.
Stand on the right, walk on the left.
My goodness! Thank you SO MUCH to
@EleanorNorton
and
@charlesallen
for coming out today, and for
@wethepizza
’s generosity. Thankful for all of you who helped, showed up and enjoyed a spring day by the fence in

headquarters, 899 North Capitol Street. Open until 5 pm, limit two per person. Short walk from Union Station.
Had to go to Union Station tonight. Walked through a cloud of pot smoke at the front door and past a guy peeing on the building. Inside I was pan-handled twice and I watched a guy sell smack to a woman, which she took into the bathroom. Sad. Just sad.
The public can now vote on the name of the intersection/park area where the former Wendy's used to stand at New York Ave/Florida Ave/1st St NE.
Commonly known as Dave Thomas Circle... it could soon be one of these five:
For those who’ve never had to interact with
@capitolpolice
, if they feel like you are disrespecting them by, say, trying to get to your own home, they will yell at you and threaten arrest. This is not an exaggeration.
Let me tell you why I WILL carry my Glock to Congress.
Government does NOT get to tell me or my constituents how we are allowed to keep our families safe.
I promise to always stand strong for our 2nd Amendment rights.
The zoo station always feels like a big lie. I know it’s only three blocks to the zoo, but they are long blocks, uphill, and nothing prepares you for the actual zoo hill. (Especially horrible when you’re trekking back up it at the end of your visit).
GREAT NEWS! 14 new water fountains are now installed on the National Mall. These new models are more accessible to people in wheelchairs and encourage the filling of reusable bottles, cutting down on waste & trash in the park. Enjoy & stay hydrated!
While we’re in a sharing mood, how about if you send me your best Capitol memories? Picnics, games, bike rides, strolls, proposals, firework, anything! We have to hold on to the good. This is our city. ❤️
Does it still feel raw for other folks? The insurrection and the aftermath— especially the fence— were such a surreal and devastating time for so many on the Hill, on both sides of the fence.
Can we start a phlox appreciation thread,
@theHillisHome
? I found a number of good ones between 3rd and F and 4th and D NE. Looking fantastic on these stone/brick walls!
Feeling very embarrassed for Colorado's third district, who elected

says it has to deal with capacity issues arising from Blue/Orange/Silver trains having to share one tunnel between VA & DC
Amazing. Looking good, 1300 block of H Street NE.
For those who are speed-camera averse, this part of H street has seen a ridiculous amount of speed-involved crashes and death.
Considering the suspect crashed into a permanent outer barricade which did stop him, and that both
@CapitolPolice
and
@DCPoliceDept
did their job effectively and quickly, aided by
@NationalGuard
, the fence is irrelevant.
Outside the game on a Saturday night. Scootering home on a Friday night. A movie theater. An elementary school. A high school. A country music concert. A synagogue. A church. A supermarket. A local newsroom. A night club and safe space.
