Jobcentres are too focused on benefits. The current system leaves little time for job-seekers to find long-term, secure jobs. We're calling for further reforms to the system. Learn more and read our report 👇

🧵There is wide consensus that the Draft Anti-Poverty Strategy is not a strategy. We've been collaborating for the last two months to engage with as many people as possible to hear about what they want to see before the consultation closes on 19 Sept. Here are the highlights:

Has anybody got an estimate of what the government could raise if they did both of these on rental income - restore mortgage interest deductibility & then levy NI on landlords' rental income?

Of course there are other cases where the effective rate is lower - 40% if no mortgage interest at all. The sane change would be to restore deductibility of mortgage interest AND THEN put employee national insurance on rents.

This tome of a book is excellent. I've always liked Stiglitz, but wished his books did more academic deep dives. This book does that, presenting the current research on inequality, as well as the corresponding models plus variations. Highly recommend.
