We’ve launched an advisory panel made up of people with lived experience of the poverty premium. Their insight will shape our work from setting priorities to guiding research. This is an important step so lived experience is at the heart of our work.

We want consumers on low incomes to be able to access affordable credit and be protected from harm. To achieve this, we need to include people with lived experience in the design of regulation. @TheFCA.

Our Director Rebecca Deegan writes on @Insurance_Post today:. People who pay for car insurance monthly are too often charged more than it costs an insurer to service this method of payment. Decisive action has been too slow. @TheFCA @The_ABI_UK.

It is essential that @hmtreasury keeps the @TheFCA have regard" to financial inclusion” so that consumer protection remains an important cornerstone of growth.

Today, I have placed financial services at the heart of the government’s growth mission. Britain cannot succeed and meet its growth ambitions without a financial services sector that is fighting fit and thriving.

We're calling on the Government to include regulators in plans to introduce the Socio-Economic Duty. It would help reduce the ingrained poverty premiums faced by people in socio-economically disadvantaged groups through a more strategic approach.

“That creates a poverty premium where people are having to pay higher prices, sometimes for basic goods”. Really good to see @Meg_HillierMP mention the poverty premium as part of the @CommonsTreasury scrutiny of the Government’s financial inclusion strategy.

As the Bill moves forward, it must be co-designed together with disabled people. Inclusive design principles ensure that policy changes reflect people's realities and avoid unintended harm.

Life already costs more when you’re disabled. Many disabled households are forced into poverty because of unavoidable extra costs. Any future changes to the Bill must not push more disabled people into poverty.

We’ve supported calls not to cut disability benefits and the Government listened. The Universal Credit and PIP Bill passed with amendments. While some cuts were cancelled, others remain, hitting people already in poverty, including those paying a poverty premium for essentials.

🚨 The government's Universal Credit (UC) and PIP bill was passed yesterday evening. Plans to cut disability benefits are still going forward. However, cuts to PIP will be removed. But it still includes measures that will rip thousands of pounds in support from disabled people.
