One of many things @rastokke says about where math ed has gone wrong: "We're saying things about conceptual understanding and we don't even know what they mean half the time." https://t.co/TaW6iseWEr

Not all "research" is evidence that you as a teacher should use a strategy in your classroom. You don't have the right to experiment w children or use instructional tactics you like. You have a moral & professional obligation to ensure children attain the academic skills they

These intervention programs have zero benefit and a real opportunity cost: Lost instructional time.
Once again, a universal, school based, social-emotional learning prevention intervention shows ZERO effect. Huge sample, delivered with a high degree of skill and nothing. Time to stop wasting money on teaching kids this stuff. They aren’t interested.

The status quo is always easiest and the path of least resistance. PA has been stuck in the status quo for decades and there’s been zero leadership to change it. The solutions exist, but they don’t go anywhere in PA unless one side can leverage the other for something instead of
It's great to see this issue starting to get more traction. The fact that we have affordable, tested and effective, evidence-based solutions for across-the-board improvements in K-12 education outcomes, and politicians and superintendents from all over the country aren't

We’ve got to reign in assessment in this country. Curriculum publishers chasing a moving target, forcing everyone to buy updated textbooks that purport to match the test formats, random knowledge in reading tests undermining knowledge rich curricula, and loads of redundant tests.

With our SCALE project, we're working with teachers and interventionists as they use a fraction intervention called Fraction Face-Off. If you support students in Grades 5-8 who need help with fractions, let's talk!

@tetheredtoed1 @KarinMariaPsyD @CorfmanTim @MrZachG Solid curriculum and a teacher who understands the Science of Learning trumps "specially designed instruction" every single day. For example, "repeat directions" is on every IEP. If the directions are that important I've written them down for all to see! I don't have to go to 8

@MrZachG They use the term “understanding” as an excuse to just do whatever they want. As @BarryGarelick pointed out, they don’t understand what the word “understand” means. I put @DTWillingham’s quote “Understanding is remembering in disguise,” in my email signature to annoy the

“So this [ineffective literacy instruction] seemed to just be perpetuating social injustice and social inequities. It's hard enough for a lot of children that they're starting from behind in a whole range of ways, but when they're getting to school, they're not on a trajectory

It’s International Literacy Day! Can we please get CEO-Hat-Snatch levels of outrage over the fact that books have been snatched from classrooms and replaced with passages? And reviewers and states and districts are buying it? Please RT if you agree that this is the more
Wonders is a K-6 English Language Arts curriculum from McGraw-Hill. It includes zero “chapter” books in grades 3-6. Sixth graders read only passages and excerpts. The average text is 7.3 pages in length. The longest text is 18 pages.

This Stanford math ed guru writes in 2015 of her pride that US elementaries were de-emphasizing students learning their times tables, in contrast to England which was implementing a national 3rd grade test of them. Ten years later, England has obviously better math outcomes.
This is the most trash thing I have read all year, so I invite you to read it https://t.co/96cjlpcICV
