For 3 hours today they were not only far from a YouTube screen, they weren’t even interested in viewing one. You literally need to fight hour by hour. What is your tween into? You got to go 500% at that thing now, or else

I genuinely don’t think parents should have to make activities a second fulltime job for themselves, constantly getting their kid into team sports, mountain biking, music, art, whatever. But I don’t see any way around it rn. Fill their hours or youtube will.

It’s so cute the things parents recently could busy themselves fretting about. Diet! Cartoon violence! Lol. Oh you sweet summer father. The AI slop reel is here for your kids. Put in 110% parenting and MAYBE you’ll save half of their cognitive potential from the slop screen.

Every parent really does need to be telling every other parent that you gotta not give em a phone till high school and have a game plan for limiting short form online video. That really is the entire ball game right now. A lot of people don’t know.

Back in the late 90s my friends and I found this place and used to sneak into the grounds to explore and try to find a way into the buildings. We never got into them, there was security. Never knew what it was till I saw this.

The existence of YouTube does not make reading and writing less valuable. It gives children a constant companion who is responsive, preternaturally so, to their desires and curiosity.

Weird, nutty shit going on with elementary math education in the US.

🚨 Maryland has adopted new math standards that REMOVE the requirement that kids know their times tables from memory, contrary to the US government's last major math education report. This is fundamental knowledge for preparation for Algebra. 1/8

Let’s not take our eyes off the main humanitarian and moral issue of our time: the insolence of young Americans thinking they can protest for human rights in the occupied territories.

If you had the technical know-how to recover the Pompeii scrolls, but not the common sense to find out that every non-groyper already knows "the federal government optimizes against fraud with inefficiency", you may be the star of a nursery rhyme about virtue and its lack.

Virtue is when you are more concerned with the peasants who have the diseases than the esteem of the rich fool king who takes his drugs and gets praised by other famous men. At a minimum, virtue is when you know what you know about, and what you don't.

But the technician in the story isn't virtuous. The federal government isn't actually full of fraud and waste. Spending or saving its money is a political question about tradeoffs and values. Working for the rich foolish king isn't virtuous in the first place.

Talented technician goes to work for the richest king in the world. King plans amount to naught because he is a fool. In the process, huge numbers of peasants die of disease, many of them children. It's like a fairytale or nursery rhyme or something from the 14th century.

brink of severe service cuts for various reasons, and the conversation about free fares just gets… nuts. “What are we even doing here?” you ask. The answer? Equity. Transit equity. Equity policy equity equity. It’s like a spell for libbing out foolishly.

But some libs get really mad and stubborn about prioritizing zero fares anyway, and it becomes like, a way to peacock about sub-optimal policy goals. Fine, whatever. But then you add that to the current reality where several of the country’s largest transit systems are on the.

Just sort of bad prioritization if your transit authority prioritizes adding moneynto ‘reducing fares to zero’ over ‘faster and more reliable service’. It’s not like it’s some mystery that this is the preference of transit riders. Everyone knows this.

It’s funny how, whenever there’s some lib policy where either the goal or the execution is really confused or nonsensical, the word equity is always involved. It’s like some kind of marker to indicate “this is a dumb one here, ok”.

Public transit is a public good—and it should be free. That’s why @RepPressley and I are reintroducing the Freedom to Move Act to make fare-free transit a reality and close the transit equity gap.

The differences between humanities and STEM higher education grads vanishingly small when compared to the differences between the two of them and people who did not go to university.
