I'm psyched to share that my PhD paper is now out in @NeuroCellPress ! It's also my first paper as both first author and corresponding author, which means even more to me! 🥳 Thank my partner @ChiChiehLee_tw for her contribution to the most adorable ever graphic abstract 🥰
Storytime! Please RT/share! I am hyped to share that my PhD work is now preprinted (also my 1st-1st author paper). It was quite a journey! https://t.co/dV6H4kIPPQ It’s a story about binge eating and flavor, a short thread here: 1/n

(1/8) My latest study is out in @Nature ! Kudos to coauthors especially @jess_cardin and to @KavliAtYale and @WuTsaiYale for support. We find that gamma power in mouse visual cortex is caused by brief events supporting visual processing

This paper may solve a core neuroscience question of the last decades: What is the cortical code? Cognitive cortex also uses tuning, and latent variable span a non-linear manifold. Unlocking this work requires understanding why PSTHs are bad. Here is my toy model and notes:

Finally preprinted! TL;DR: thalamic head-direction neurons can shape their activity regardless of input. Big thanks to @apeyrache and master experimentalist @SSkromne.

The primate visual system is a marvel of nature, inspiring the convnet. But how did it evolve? Do all highly visual mammals possess a ‘ventral stream’—a hierarchy of brain areas with increasing selectivity for complex forms? In our new study, we tackled these questions using

Our lab’s 1st paper is out on bioRxiv! What many (including us) thought were temporal prediction/error signals, turn out to be intrinsic interval-timing signals. Led heroically by my student Yicong @yicong4ever with amazing support from the whole lab. https://t.co/5bKkcvpC72

New in @ScienceMagazine! 🎉 Thrilled to share my PhD project, we introduce a new optogenetic approach to study the developing brain - revealing how oxytocin shapes infant behavior. Thanks to my collaborators, @OferYizhar & my family❤️ https://t.co/DECnPvjEKS Here’s the story🧵

Curious about how mice follow odor trails? Excited to share our latest (long-time brewing)! We watched mice on an "endless" treadmill. Combining experiments with Bayesian modeling we show that mice use predictive (not reactive) strategies!

Psilocybin holds promise as a treatment for mental illnesses. One dose of psilocybin induces structural remodeling of dendritic spines in the medial frontal cortex in mice. The dendritic spines would...

Thanks for featuring our study! Check out our paper on binge eating!
🧠 Researchers from the #NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence at #CharitéBerlin have discovered that it's our sense of smell, not taste, that controls feelings of fullness. When eating quickly, in a binge-like manner, the olfactory cortex is suppressed. https://t.co/T7Oll7MCNm

Finally, some personal updates, since this year I have started my postdoc with @lukesjulson at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, studying prefrontal dynamics in addiction models. Hopefully, soon I'll have something cool to show you all! 🙂

I'd like to highlight and thank @CanedoRiedel , the Kelsch lab, and @russo_eleon for their contribution, where they analyzed the functional connectivity between OT and aPC and showed the recruitment of OT –| aPC circuit after odor presentation! Crucial link between OT and aPC!

In this version, we identified the missing link in the last version, a circuit mechanism of how the olfactory cortex (aPC) is suppressed during binge feeding. The GABAergic neurons in the olfactory tubercle (OT) perfectly mirror the aPC neuronal dynamics during feeding!!
