I’m the chair of the Va House Public Safety Committee, the Committee he is referring. We WILL be bringing sensible gun violence prevention laws to Virginia. The voters have spoken. Thank you.
Your 2nd Amendment is under very serious attack in the Great Commonwealth of Virginia. That’s what happens when you vote for Democrats, they will take your guns away. Republicans will win Virginia in 2020. Thank you Dems!

The Va House votes to ban conversion therapy to minors. For seven years, I could never get this bill out of Subcommittee and today we voted out a strong bipartisan bill!
HB 675 would have DECREASED premiums by 4.5% and REDUCED the number of uninsured by 14,000.
@GovernorVA
vetoed the bill. Virginians can’t afford to pay higher health care costs.
The Governor wants some of the same people that wanted to mandate a transvaginal ultrasound to come up with a bipartisan consensus? Here’s a bipartisan consensus that a majority of Virginians support: Let’s codify abortion rights under Roe vs Wade and let’s do it this summer.
Next session I’m introducing a bill to require all gubernatorial candidates to pass a course in Virginia government where we learn about the rule of law, separation or powers, and the three coequal branches of government. It will be retroactive to 2021.
These charges are unprecedented and it’s a sad day for our country, especially in light of what clearly appears to be a two-tiered justice system where some are selectively prosecuted, and others are not. Parents in Virginia know firsthand what it’s like to be targeted by…
I am chair of the
@vah_pubSafety
committee in Virginia that passed seven major new gun violence prevention laws this year. In 2021 we will do even more to make Virginians safer and be working with President Biden to do it.
VIRGINIA, and everywhere else for that matter, I am the only thing standing between you and your 2nd Amendment. If I am re-elected, it is 100% SAFE. If not, it is GONE!
Leaders lead.
Even when it’s not popular.
This time last year I was laughed at & ridiculed because I refused to wear a mask. They even put me in a box. Today, it all paid off as Governor Youngkin signed into law a bill that I copatroned and allows our kids to take off that mask.
After today’s Supreme Court decision on the EPA I am glad to see Governor Youngkin come out in support of new legislation to protect our air and water quality and protect life. I will set to work on this legislation immediately!
No matter how much you dislike a law, you do not have the constitutional authority to abrogate the Virginia Code through an Executive Order. SB 1303 is the law and it must be followed by all school districts.
The decision to get the covid vaccine, or wear a mask, are matters of personal liberty; parents should make that decision for their children.
Our fight against COVID-19 will move forward based on this simple principle: We will protect lives and livelihoods.
For all who are checking in- my family and I are fine but our house shook and we could see the flames from our front yard. Thank you
@ArlingtonVaPD
@ArlingtonVaFD
who are on the scene of a very dangerous situation tonight.
Conversion therapy is unnecessary, counter-productive, cruel, and incredibly harmful.

As the father of three teenagers, I find the
@GovernorVA
campaign tweet beneath the office of His Excellency. If a parent bullied a student in Arlington like this they would be banned from school property.
One day very soon, Virginia will prohibit so-called conversion therapy performed on minors. Thank you to all the brave survivors for sharing their stories. A big shout-out to
@DelegateMark
for his eloquence and standing strong in Subcommittee.
We’re especially grateful to
@adamo889
(pictured), a survivor of conversion therapy who shared his harrowing story with the subcommittee about the dangers of this fraudulent practice.

Virginia this is your wake-up call. Today, people are waking up in 13 other states without the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions. We CANNOT - we WILL NOT - allow this to happen in Virginia!
Yesterday I sent draft language to my colleagues on the first step of an impeachment action regarding the Lt. Governor. There has been an enormous amount of sincere and thoughtful feedback which has led to additional conversations that need to take place before anything is filed.
I hope the organization representing Virginia's localities will not support policies that permit racial profiling.
@SenLouiseLucas
and my law is a model for the nation and we will not go backwards.
We wrote to over 130 members of
@Virginia_League
asking them to rescind support for racial profiling practices by police, inviting them to attend an informal presentation on this issue ahead of a vote they will make this weekend on their draft policy.
Only one member attended….
@APSVirginia
will maintain our current mask requirement for students, staff and visitors. Masks 😷 required inside our facilities and on school buses. Full post ➡️
As the parent of 3

students and a Delegate representing Arlington parents, we overwhelmingly support prioritizing the health and safety of our students. Period.
@WTOP
Exclusive: Governor Youngkin on Arlington school system saying it will require masks, despite Youngkin’s order stating that schools can’t do that. He threatened to use state resources to force schools to comply - but we still don’t know what that means exactly.

taking meaningful action to ban weapons of war. This bill is constitutional & will save lives. I’m grateful to

Today, the House Public Safety Committee passed:
✅Universal background checks
✅Reporting lost/stolen firearms
✅Granting local authority to govern gun possession
✅Prohibiting child access to firearms
✅Substantal Risk Law
✅Limit 1 handgun a month
✅Disarming domestic abusers
This headline pretty much sums up how
@GovernorVA
veto was received in Arlington. I’ve heard from both Republicans and Democrats who see it this way. I’ve never seen a veto have this kind of bipartisan reaction.
Good to see Virginia school boards putting the health and safety of students ahead of political agendas. It’s time to listen to parents,
@GovernorVA

Virginia becomes the first state in the South to repeal the death penalty. I’m proud to end this horrific and most racist vestige of the past.

During his back-to-school rally in Fairfax County, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin blasted Fairfax County Public Schools’ transgender and gender expansive student policy, called Regulation 2603.
Thank you Del.

“...all Democrats should make that same commitment, our caucus should make that commitment, every single Democrat that’s running for office should make that commitment.”
This is BIG and a statement of our values. Solitary confinement is torture and Virginia is on the verge of breaking through on a significant victory in prison reform.

The alleged crimes committed by LG Fairfax took place in Massachusetts and North Carolina. The impeachment process is the only way for Virginia to have the investigation that LG Fairfax has demanded.

It’s clear
@GovernorVA
is letting his national ambitions and political agenda get in the way of his governing.
@GovernorVA
, this bill doesn’t do what you think it does.
Cole’s Law passes! If you self-select to operate a family day home, you simply have to lock up your guns and keep them away from children.

Virginia is the best state in the best nation in the world—and we’re proud to once again be recognized by
@CNBC
as the best place in America to do business.
This has to be one of

greatest takedowns.
Watch the hired gun lobbyist for the jails nod in agreement and then panic when the Senator starts landing haymakers, exposing the racket that is jail profiteering in Virginia.
When I read Cole’s tragic story, I couldn’t believe Virginia didn’t have a law against leaving an unsecured gun in a home day care. That’s why I led the fight to enact Cole’s Law and to prevent future tragedies.

Cole was just a young boy who found an unsecured gun at his in-home daycare when the unthinkable happened. That's why the VA General Assembly passed Cole's Law last year. The stories from

This is a grift that’s all about stopping our long-overdue progress in Virginia. Every single issue
@parisa4justice
ran on, the General Assembly or Arlington took up and passed. Let me count the ways: 1/7
“Virginia has the opportunity to be the first Southern state to abolish capital punishment to correct the wrongs of the past and advance toward a more just, equitable and unbiased tomorrow.”
Virginia budget with Medicaid expansion passes the House 67-31. More than 300k working Virginians will have coverage. THIS IS A HISTORIC INVESTMENT IN OUR SAFETY NET! THANK YOU VIRGINIA!
🚨 WE DID IT! HB 1912, which would end the practice of charging parents “child support” to incarcerate their kids, passed the House! Thank you
@RISEforYouth
for your advocacy!
Voted absentee w/an excuse for the last time today! No-excuse absentee 🗳 coming soon. Thank you
@ArlingtonVotes
for making absentee voting so easy!
One of the first bills I introduced in my first term (10 years ago) was to ban firearms in the Capitol and the GAB. I’m thankful for Speaker
@EFillerCorn
leadership to ban firearms by rule on Capitol Square last session. It’s time we turn this rule into law!
BREAKING: Michigan just unanimously moved to ban open carry of guns inside the Michigan Capitol Building.
This what it means to take common-sense action to protect constituents, prevent violence, and save lives.
More states must follow suit.
Great article summarizing how Virginia has failed its residents and workers in nursing, assisted living, and group homes. It starts with the secrecy around facility reporting. The lack of PPE and testing in these facilities is so heartbreaking.
Virginia repealed its one-handgun-a-month law in 2012. Since, we’ve reclaimed the title the “Gun-Running Capitol of the East Coast.” Virginia voters sent us to Richmond w/a mandate to protect citizens of the Commonwealth.
@MayorBowser
we shall act!
The greatest highlight of my session was introducing my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop on the floor of the Va General Assembly. It’s the little things that are huge.
The woman in the left picture sitting in the center at the Woolworth’s lunch counter in Jackson, MS is my constituent Joan Trumpauer Mulholland

and I’m so proud that she was brave enough to stand up for what was right. Anne Moody and John Salter are on her sides.
This year's
#BlackHistoryMonth
begins on the 60th anniversary of sit-in protest at the Greensboro Woolworth's lunch counter. Easy to look back & applaud their actions today, but how many of us would have had the courage in Feb 1960 to do what these young civil rights leaders did?
House approves Medicaid expansion with Republican support but Senate blocks it along party lines, setting up an epic budget conference showdown over the next few weeks. At issue is health insurance for 400,000 Virginians who live in poverty or with disabilities.
This story is trending on Twitter so I’m going to take this opportunity to remind you that so-called “conversion therapy” is legal in Virginia.
@ssurovell
Let’s make it illegal in 2020.
My view for the start of my 7th term in the Virginia House of Delegates. I want to thank the people of the 47th District in Arlington for this honor and privilege!
Thank you
@MomsDemand
! Although we made significant progress in 2020, we still have more work to do to make Virginia free of gun violence. In three days...let’s get to work!
Heading into the General Assembly session,
@MomsDemand
's top priorities are:
✅ Permit-to-purchase
✅ Banning guns at polling stations
✅ Banning guns in state buildings
✅ Banning ghost guns
We might not be in RVA but our presence will be felt across the state!

The tide is rapidly turning and has been for a long time. Virginians support abolishing the death penalty and we should take immediate action. cc

The increase in gun-related suicides and homicides has devastated our communities – no community is immune. But enhanced background checks and the properly storing of firearms are proven ways we can prevent these gun-related deaths. It’s time to quit playing politics and enact…

Today, Republican Del. Tim Hugo led the charge against Governor Northam's amendment to increase transportation funding by $45 million.
Virginia's families expect us to fix the Commonwealth's transportation problems -- and
@VAHouseDems
and
@GovernorVA
will keep working to do so.
It is past time we stopped paying people with disabilities a subminimum wage. My bill would end this practice and promote competitive employment. There are 15 states that have already banned this practice and Virginia is about to become the 16th!

It’s time we recognize the importance of treating dental care the same way we treat the rest of health care. The NoVa Aging Network
@Broder512
pressed hard for this provision and I submitted its budget amendment. Glad we got it done! 👏💪🦷
We can’t allow this to be in any way the new normal. I’m relieved for my child, who was in the school the entire time, and all the other students and parents affected who are still badly shaken. This cannot be the new normal!
