My deepest condolences to Gerry’s wife Smitty and daughter Caitlin during these difficult times. My family and I join his friends and supporters in mourning the loss. Having spent plenty of St. Patrick’s Day with this proud Irishman, let me say “May the road rise to meet you.”

For over two decades, @GerryConnolly was my county supervisor, board chairman, and congressman. More importantly, he was a friend. I was honored to have his endorsement during a 4-way primary campaign and I supported him many times. He was a one of a kind and will be missed.

I’m thinking of the Bidens as they take on cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to spare other families from. Wishing you a speedy, full recovery.

I first met @JoeBiden in 1988 as a @DNC staffer. l then worked with him in the 2000s as a @JudiciaryDems staffer. Twenty years later, I was honored to serve in his presidential administration. He’s always been a fighter... Today, I wish him well as he faces his toughest fight.

I immigrated to the United States 44 years ago, on December 19, 1980, so I had the privilege of living under President Jimmy Carter for one month. Years later, I met him at an event and told him that I became an American under his watch. Well done, good and faithful servant.
