I have a new short story up at @NewPopLit ! And I'm really excited about THIS one. Killian Archibald & her friends are some of my favorite characters I've ever created. I hope you all enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoy writing about them.

So, hey, funny story. The guy in this video getting his ass kicked? That's me.😬 I had a bit of an adventure this evening trying to protect a bar I love, one that ended with me in the hospital. But I am quite alive, if a bit worse for wear.

Reminder that this asshole deliberately slandered the Bishop of Jerusalem in "Kingdom of Heaven" by portraying him as a coward & a liar during Saladin's siege. In real life, the bishop was instrumental in the negotiations that ended the siege & allowed everyone to leave safely.

Joseph Stalin once wrly remarked: "The Pope? How many divisions has he got?" Then a few decades later, Pope Saint John Paul II went to Soviet Poland & showed how many. It is tempting to be fearful of the future. But perhaps we should hope, instead. A thread:

@kevinsmith1980 @RyanHupp @AOC My intention was humility. In a Christian world there is a recognition that no earthly ruler, no mortal master, & no evil spirit can in any way proclaim himself above Jesus Christ. I consider it not pedantry but scrupulousness. I think God loves the precise.

It's not in the headline, but that report on clergy sexual abuse in Illinois actually contains good news. Of the priests accused of abuse, only two were ordained after 2000. And the cases of abuse shrink dramatically after 2000, too. The Church's reforms seem to be working.

Every now and then I go back and look at the response from this Portuguese Rabbi to the guy who wanted to make a documentary about Spinoza. "a ban that remains in force for all time and cannot be rescinded" goes extremely hard.

If you think about it, the troubled history of the Second Vatican Council is just a small example of a larger trend: that every single assumption people in the 1960s & 1970s made about the future has turned out to be wrong.

@business Australia should threaten to arrest Google employees within its borders in response. If Google's pulling out the nuclear option, the Australian government should as well.

@evanchill Because that surely wouldn't make everything substantially worse, & substantially more unstable.

@BDSixsmith I'm getting baffled by all of this hopeful posting. Everything that is absolutely able to be confirmed, everything that's totally verifiable, suggests that the Ukranians are putting up a stiff fight, but that the Russians are probably still going to win.

Father Martin prayed for the unborn at the DNC. His Eminence Cardinal Dolan prayed for immigrants & refugees at the RNC. It's always good to see consistency in the American Church.

@ZeldaAGabriel You might try to pray the Rosary. Give it a go, just once. There's a lot of Jesus in it. If you want maximum Jesus, try the Sorrowful Mysteries. Here's a guide:

@ArchCordileone If the Novus Ordo was celebrated exactly as the Council directed it to be celebrated, it would look rather different from the Mass many Americans are used to. Perhaps we need to come to terms with that, and the extent to which the Council's documents have not been followed.

The Catholic Church needs to get back into missionary work. The Jesuits clearly need something productive to do with their time, start sending them to Saudi Arabia, China, hell, even to atheist France.
