Information about the Germans strafing Polish civilians and shooting airmen's parachutes was passed on by the British air attaché in Sept '39: 'I assume this means we fight with the gloves off.' The RAF continued to cling to the Knights of the Air fantasy.
Polish pilots now fighting for Britain have been told it's "unsporting" to shoot Germans pilots after they bale out; the Poles settle for collapsing the Germans' parachutes by flying overhead.

Photos from Bucharest are much less well known than those from Paris or Warsaw. Yet Soviet occupation of Romania important. Ploeşti oil fields seized. German trade with neutral Turkey cut off. SE Europe fell in USSR's orbit. @WW2TV @SWWResearchNA @almurray @James1940 @WWIImuseum
#OTD 31 August 1944, with German resistance in Romania finished, Soviet troops parade through Bucharest. Crowds of curious/worried onlookers, vocal leftist activists, excited workers, relieved Jews, & anxious officials line the streets. A surreal start to the Soviet occupation.

Chances of Jews surviving were far higher in Belgium than in the Netherlands. Possible reasons were Belgium's previous experience with occupation, Catholic Walloons attitudes, Netherlands card index system of population registration and differing rates of Jewish refugees.
Andrée Geulen: The Belgian teacher who rescued 100s of Jewish children during the Holocaust and kept coded records of their original names, such that they could return to their original families post-war. She was recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations in 1989.

31.08.1943|Over 400 inmates - mostly Poles & Ukrainians - were deported from the Gestapo Łącki prison in Lviv to #Majdanek. Among those prisoners detained in KL Lublin that day there was a Ukrainian priest Emilian Kowcz, the blessed parson of Majdanek.

@HGWDavie RT is one game that has the largest user content. Whilst not covering the same breadth CMBB did overall CM covers more periods. With modern being VERY popular. Personally eastern front my key interest and who knows what involvement with slitherine might bring in that regard.
