British & Red Army troops are massing on the borders of Iran- the Anglo-Soviet alliance is eyeing Iranian oilwells & a rail route connecting British colonies to the USSR.

German government has begun to use the term "Winter War" for the first time in official propaganda- tacitly abandoning previously announced "victory by September" in the USSR.

Royal Air Force have parachuted a spare pair of artificial legs for captured pilot Douglas Bader. RAF refused a German offer to let a British plane land on Luftwaffe airfield & deliver the legs- dropped them during a bombing run.

Leningrad's commander Marshal Voroshilov appeals to Soviet civilians to be "ready for last-ditch defence- women, too- inspire your husbands!"

Leningrad is being frantically fortified by Red Army & 10,000s of conscripted civilians, as Wehrmacht & Finnish forces near the USSR's second city.

German soldier Eric Stahl's division is now shooting 4000 prisoners: "They scarcely looked up when our interpreter told them of their fate. How strangely these men used their last minutes: one neatly folded up his greatcoat on the ground; others greedily sucked a last cigarette.".

In the German-conquered USSR, the execution of prisoners is in full swing; one SS division is shooting all Soviet prisoners of war in reprisal for unspecified "Russian atrocities".

French Communists have assassinated a German naval officer, Alfons Moser, shot on the Paris Metro, in retribution for Nazi killing of protesters; German occupiers of France vow brutal reprisal.

Hitler promises Goebbels "when the Russian war ends, I can deport the Jews of Berlin- it's scandalous that 70,000 parasites still loiter here.".

At orders of German occupation authorities, French police have arrested 5000 Parisian Jews-they're being sent to newly-opened concentration camp in the Paris suburb of Drancy.

Douglas Bader has asked his German captors to air-drop a message over the UK: "Tell my boys & wife I'm fine, & get me my spare legs, & a new pipe.".

Bader requests one test flight in a German Messerschmidt, to see if it's as good as a British fighter; Galland refuses: "You'd escape- & now that we've met, I don't want to have to shoot at you again.".
