Really important to see how #History is very much alive in the current #Railway industry! Colin Haynes (@AlstomUK) shares his research into the names on the war memorials at Crewe & Derby works, as a #Railway200 Great Rail Tale: @railway200

Our thanks to the really engaged audience - so many good questions & ideas, which I and we really appreciated. It was also very pleasing to be able to share the Portsmouth Area Railway Pasts with attendees - given it's a project based in a particular locale, it was apt.

It was really lovely to see old friends in the audience, as well as people we've not encountered before - a great mix, covering #LocalHistory, #FamilyHistory, #RailwayHistory & more! The feedback has been both excellent AND very useful - some new connections to follow up on!

If you were registered for the event but couldn't attend - or wanted to watch again - then the recording will be available for a limited time, so make the most of it! Now looking forward to turning the talk into an article for the @BALHNews's journal, The Local Historian.

Done! With thanks to @BALHNews for the invitation, it was a pleasure & an honour to give the 2025 Dymond Lecture. We flagged the #LocalHistory connections in the Railway Work, Life & Death project - particularly fitting in the #Railway200 year! @railway200

@railway200 They've come from our Portsmouth Area Railway Pasts project, collaborative with the Havant Local History Group & funded by @HeritageUoP. A huge thanks to all involved in helping find out more about past railway staff in our area, & sharing that with the public for #Railway200!

Also important to see the academic input into #Railway200 being flagged and recognised. This was something Railway Work, Life & Death project co-lead Mike hoped for when he got involved with Railway 200 as the academic liaison - trying to connect Railway 200 & academics.

Really lovely to see our Portsmouth Area Railway Pasts work featured in the round-up of #Railway200 activity, in yesterday's Railway 200 Working Group meeting! It'll be a boost for the project team - well done all involved!
Last #Railway200 Working Group meeting of the year this morning! Whilst the focus will probably be on reflection, there's more to come - not least (for us!) taking our 'Portsmouth Area Railway Pasts' project exhibition aboard Inspiration! @railway200

This is both a rather lovely story, & a rather sad one. The initial loss of identity & connection to mine work, seen through a tangible, symbolic artefact, countered by the efforts 1 man is making to re-connect people/ their descendants to their past: https://t.co/lhf26BbZZU

Some good news on this story, but the initial position was dreadful. An unusual way in which archives remain precarious even when in formal care & nominal safety. Gillingham museum finds duplicates of destroyed drawings - BBC News

The director of the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham says they were "devastated" by the theft.
