GDP per head also fell in the quarter, renewing the negative momentum - it appears the price of above trend growth in the first half of this year is below trend growth in the second half.
Softer UK growth in Q3 24: +0.1% QoQ; +1.0% YoY. The "gangbusters" of H1 has given way to something more pedestrian.

I feel we're now going to be talking about econmic resilience vs efficiency a lot more of the coming years. .
Economic stabilization used to be part of the disaster preparedness toolbox. It is time we add it back in. Just as it was recognized that some banks were too big to fail after the global financial crisis, we have to recognize that some sectors are “too essential to fail.”.

One of the most important datapoints of all. The total fertility rate is now at record lows - and still falling. In the 60s it was 3.3 children per woman in the developed world. Today: 1.5. & while the UK used to be slightly higher than the OECD average it’s now slightly lower.
