The PIP problem is a good example of a wider issue: the British state is totally unable/unwilling to tackle those who break the rules, so in order to manage the scale of its workload it creates harsher procedures that shift the burden onto the rule-abiding. It punishes honesty.

A word to the Labour party: he's in a safe Tory seat. You aren't going to win it and the country desperately needs housing. It's the perfect place to put 500,000 new homes at no political cost to you. You know you want to.

If you recognise the idea of a distinctly Scottish, Welsh and Irish identity then you implicitly concede the existence of an English identity as the remainder. It's not particularly controversial outside of the small circle of people who work in media/politics.

If you earn £60,000 in London, you pay £17,000 in direct taxes, another £4,300 in indirect taxes, and your rent. Even living further out, you have a lower standard of living than a socially housed family of benefits claimants. And if they get PIP, you'll drive a worse car too.

I find it absolutely mad when politicians talk about our "international reputation" as a reason for self-damaging madness like that Chagos giveaway. The UK's "international reputation" is arresting people for mean words online while letting paedophiles walk free.

Honestly Britain needs to take a leaf from Javier Milei's book. "Charities" that live off government funding and use it to block deportations? Afuera!. Civil servants that refuse to protect our borders? Afuera!. Illegal migrants convicted of sex offences? Afuera!

I don't think people realise quite how bad the UK fiscal picture is. Spending is set to cross 60% of GDP, compared to 53% during furlough. That's not realistic, and young, high income workers are likely to bear the brunt of the correction. Offer them a way out and they'll go.

The USA realising it can brain drain the top 10 per cent of Brits dirt cheap with no assimilation issues would be an actual catastrophe for the UK. Instant fiscal crisis - this group provides 60% of the income tax take - and loads would go.

Since 2021, the UK has imported 144,000 low paid care workers. Many will soon be eligible for permanent residency. Each one that stays could cost as much as £421,000 net over their lifetimes. We're running out of time to fix a £61 billion mistake:

The UK is currently trialling an innovative combination of building no homes, opening the borders, raising taxes, and letting public services rot. The party which has done this is then going to ask a coalition of social conservatives and free marketeers to vote for it next year.

By the standards of most of their respective histories today's 'sensible progressive settlement' could be seen as quite extreme in the UK and US. Men in women's sports, all borders are racist, no humans are illegal, decarceration, etc.
