V for voyage. As Christmas comes and the New Year, I remember that weβre all on a voyage. My eyes are wide open now to every day of the voyage. Every day counts - we learn, we work, we live, we connect to others, but most importantly we donβt postpone. #lifeafterloss.
V is for voyage. After Alexander died, I promised him that I'd stop making excuses about things I wanted to do. So I booked a trip to Australia for him. Isabelle was the dream travel companion. She loved it.I'm so glad I didn't know what was to come & just savoured every second.π

After we lost Leo, @criminographer was our first lifeline. Her son Alexander and Leo were close in age when they died. We mourn the loss of her daughter Isabelle by the same genetic condition as Alexander. Consider helping her family to gain some breathing room. π.
Thanks so much for all the condolences for the loss of Isabelle. We're so grateful for offers of help but as we can't think straight at the moment,a colleague has kindly done a fundraiser page until we can function enough to know what we need.Thank you x

Awesome work @DanielHFisch and @jkagan1 and team! This elegantly demonstrates the power of studying the endogenous proteins in real time in their native environment! ππ Loving the innate immune cell biology, the best! π.

Pathogen battling p62! #autophagy π Happy to have made a small contribution and congratulations to all authors!π.
The main story of my PhD research project is finally out in @JCellBiol today!.We were looking at how Vaccinia virus circumvents host immunity by disabling the autophagy machinery through depletion of sequestome-like receptors (SLRs). For a π§΅see below:.

Important read for all of us studying cell-autonomous defences to pathogens. The guns (here lysosomes) each cell type has will be different AND (!) be loaded differently (aka differ in function and response) within a cell type. Yep, diversity in biology at its best! π¬π
π.
π₯#Lysosome aficionados: excited to see this perspective we wrote with @claudiobussi π€© @TheCrick in @PLOSBiology out! π§΅π

Congratulations to @ewald_lab and team for putting a new post-translational modification - nitration driven by iNOS - at the heart of the vacuole-targeted killing mechanism of #Toxoplasma. Huge news!! >25 years after the discovery that iNOS is somehow important! πππ.
Excited to share our new story explaining how macrophages use nitric oxide derivatives to shut down Toxoplasma evasion of cell-autonomous immunity. Congrats to @zhaoxyu6 and the team!

Today we opened the wonderful play ship for the @HanburySchool children in Leoβs memory. π All made possible by resources, work and enthusiasm of our friends, community and the school. π We are grateful Leoβs ship will bring years of fun to the kids. π.
Children at Hanbury C of E First School celebrated the launch of a spectacular new play area, built to celebrate the life of one of their beloved classmates. HFS Leo was βlaunchedβ today by Leo Mercerβs family.

Whole genome sequencing providing answers in sudden death cases. It motivates me as a scientist to continue to discover protein pathways. As a bereaved mum, I know the trauma. Itβs important to witness, to never forget, to live for those we lost. #Alexander π.
Thank you so much for everyone's kind comments about our story. Hopefully, it might help other families to know the option is now there for whole genome sequencing. Much love to all our #sudc, #childloss families, and those also navigating genetic diagnoses π #grief #dailyjoy
