I’m never leaving this website. Some guy just called me a fascist for wanting to *checks notes* use taxes to build roads. I keep thinking about how absurd that exchange was and laughing to myself.
I’m mad at the government because they won’t let me completely deplete a water source that an entire region relies on for drinking water because I chose to grow crops that require significantly more water than normal annual rainfall provides.
Turn Idaho Farmer’s Water Back On!
Idaho Farmers Protesting The US Government Shutting Off Water To Their Farmland
This water curtailment affects over half a million acres of Idaho Farmland
Stand with our farmers 🌾
@Synk556
By all means please educate me. I watched this exact fight play out last year in my own state. So if there’s context that’s relevant and unique to Idaho I’d be open to hearing it.
@CornfedCurler
Most farmers don’t want to admit that they’re wards of the state. Without subsidies, tax breaks, trade agreements and a host of other government benefits the vast majority of US farmers would fail and be bankrupt in only a few years.
@fuckyouiquit
I’ll play devils advocate, but only sort of. Obviously I didn’t read the article, and I’m not saying we should be working 60 hour weeks. If you’re requiring me to be at work, have something for me to do. Otherwise let me go home. Pretending to be busy at work is soul sucking
@Chase_de
This same fight is playing out in a lot of places. Unfortunately they’ll let the aquifer go dry before they decide to reevaluate their farming practices.
@HC_Richardson
@MuellerSheWrote
Trump cared about US service members about as much as Putin does his soldiers he’s actively feeding into the meat grinder in Ukraine.
@fuckyouiquit
The wild thing to me is that people in industry constantly complain about OSHA regulations. I know you hate wearing that respirator, but the chemical you’re working with every day has an incredibly high cancer risk especially with chronic exposure but sure, you’ll beat the odds.
@alcibiades5410
A fair amount of alfalfa is grown where I live, but it’s almost all grown by the farmers who intend to feed it to their own livestock. But there’s a lot of places it could be grown in place of the current crop rotation.
@ARandomGuyIKnow
@pikacap
@litcapital
I thought that. But then remember how Jager bombs are basically why I had to tell my parents there we several classes I’d be retaking the following semester…
@gtconway3d
I’m a little confused , I thought law school was difficult. But I keep seeing people that apparently graduated and passed the bar that are leading me to believe that there’s some sort of GED equivalent of a law degree.
@JoJoFromJerz
@RonFilipkowski
I’m very amused at how surprised some of these people are acting now that Durham’s investigation is the obvious waste of time we’ve said it was from the beginning.
@MuellerSheWrote
@GOP
They want to reopen the one that construction never actually began on. Because they’ve convinced a lot of people that Biden somehow just shut off some pumps and closed the valves and LOTO’d the whole damn pipeline.
@MuellerSheWrote
@dalepartridge
Why are all the “alpha males” that are telling me I need to get strong guys that look like they’ve never seen the inside of a gym, or done actual manual labor in their lives?
@Synk556
@takecarey_x
Any water well that is not permitted by the state is illegal because that water is a common resource. In the same way you’re not allowed to dam a river that crosses your property. There are always terms to the operation of those wells that are agreed to by the permit.
@BarnShadow
I’m failing to see how this cobalt mining operation is the sole reason for water curtailment for farmers in the region. Any additional water consumers will only make the problem worse.
@CholulaCount
This is how it is in Kansas as well. If you get a new permitted well yours is considered junior to anything already existing. If for any reason water curtailment occurs the junior wells will be shut down first. This is up front and known when you get your permit.
@Spark898
My Jeep has the led headlights, and they are awesome for driving on a 2 lane country blacktop with no other traffic. They should probably start including a “not blinding fucking everyone” option for low beams though.
@Scythian00
That’s kind of the point though. I’m certain that no one that’s making these decisions to curtail water use want to do that. But they can read the writing on the wall. If they don’t do something there won’t be any crops in those regions.
@itsJeffTiedrich
I’m generally a pro gun guy (but with reasonable regulations, licensing, background checks etc) and Lauren Boebert has “negligent discharge of a firearm” written all over her. Responsible ownership of a firearm requires a level of personal responsibility that she clearly lacks.
@RonFilipkowski
I’m laughing but only as a coping mechanism because you’re probably right. CNN will spend all day talking about how inappropriate it is.
@Spark898
The great news is that the fitment of those body panels guarantees that the fire department is going to be able to find a purchase point to get the tips of the hydraulic spreader in to get the door open.
@MichaelStahlke
So NASCAR and Formula 1 still use rack and pinion steering for a reason. I’d assume that the cybertruck is some kind of fly by wire bullshit. Which based on how everything else has worked probably won’t result in some horrific crashes or anything.
@RonFilipkowski
I imagine when his T-ball team lost its first game 5 year old Trump claimed that the game was rigged. He’s a guy that’s never once owned a single loss or failure in his entire life. The thought of actually being held accountable for something must terrify him.
@MuellerSheWrote
I’m always surprised by how opinionated people can be about the military. Only to find out that I’m the only person in the room that ever was in the military.
@BarnShadow
It’s a genuine concern. But without hard numbers about the water usage the mining operation is going to consume it’s difficult to determine how much it’s going to contribute. Is it equivalent to 1000 irrigated acres or 1,000,000?
@MuellerSheWrote
I’m honestly excited about this. Now we get to watch the DOJ show Judge Cannon what happens when you fuck around. Spoiler Alert: it doesn’t end well for FPOTUS or his legal team.
@TaskandPurpose
An apology after you’ve been called out for the fucked up thing you did is meaningless. But at least you apologized. Now you need to atone. I’m eagerly awaiting your resignation.
@SpiroAgnewGhost
Every time I read something he’s said or “written” I think to myself there is no fucking way FPOTUS has a reading level higher than the 2nd grade.
@CoolBeens789
The amount of water that’s used for fighting wildfires is pretty negligible compared to what gets sprayed on crops. While dealing with the wildfires is very important it’s not what’s driving the state to reduce water consumption.
@ASevenAngels
Not the case at all. But responsible management of freshwater sources has to be done. It may be temporarily painful but it’s better than the alternative.
@RYP__
I’ve been laughing at that announcement all day, yet you made it even funnier. The sad part is as bad as the photoshoping is on this, it’s still way better than some of the nfts he’s trying to sell.
@ASevenAngels
How do you think rivers, lakes, reservoirs and aquifers get replenished? And I’m not implying that they shouldn’t farm at all, only that it’s foolish to grow crops that require significant irrigation in areas that have been routinely in drought.
@MikeDickenson7
@Synk556
@takecarey_x
There’s a balancing act that has to be done. And I don’t envy anyone in a position that has to make decisions about it. If I owned a farm I’d be putting together a 5-10 year plan that involves using much less of it so that you’re prepared for further reductions.
@williemoeday
@Chase_de
Where I live that’s the primary irrigated crop, but it may not be the only one. There’s a fair amount of dry land corn grown here as well. But because of normal rainfall in the region it rarely does as well as irrigated crops.
@MikeDickenson7
@Synk556
@takecarey_x
You’re speaking to me like I’m some fucking city kid. I’m very aware of how much some farmers struggle. I’m also aware that even with all the advantages and government subsidies that there are a lot of farmers barely scrapping by because of their own refusal to change.
@desertrider65
For example, in Kansas the law says that the older your well is the more senior it is. Newer wells are junior to already existing wells. When water curtailment occurs the junior wells are shut down first. You are made aware of these conditions when you receive your permit.
@HazeyDaisey17
@djross95
Gasoline in California is subject to additional emissions requirements from the state. Therefore it is only produced by refineries in California. Gasoline is always high in California compared to anywhere else because it’s the only place that demand exists (is mandated)
@natsechobbyist
Spoiler alert: it’s going to be weak and pathetic, and when they finally find the absolutely nothing at the end of that investigation they’re just going to pretend they didn’t do it.
@mls1776
@gtconway3d
No. But he, and Kash Patel, and his lawyers in a filing earlier this year have all claimed that he declassified them by waving a magic wand. Not by actually following the process to do so.
@JLCauvin
Am I the only one that caught the “with his third wife comment”. I’m pretty sure this is a joke. But unfortunately most things that happen anymore should be jokes but sadly aren’t.
@IntractableLion
My wife is on an economic development board for a small town in Kansas. Literally every space a new business could come into is empty and overpriced, and people can’t understand why small rural communities are dying.
@JoyceWhiteVance
@dailybeanspod
I know we’re way past anything remotely resembling normal. But people are ok with a politician hiring a former associate who was convicted of serious crimes and is only out of prison because he was pardoned by said politician? That doesn’t sound like draining the swamp at all.
@MuellerSheWrote
All I’m saying about it is that if he had a genuinely visible injury, given his self styled tough guy image. Nothing would look tougher than him showing off that wound with minimal bandages. So why IS it covered up?
@MuellerSheWrote
If you’re a family member or care about someone who may be one of trump’s lawyers you might want to reach out and check on them, they’ve got some dark times ahead.
@MuellerSheWrote
They’re doing that thing the wealthy alumni at the University of Nebraska do to maintain their record length sellout of the football stadium.
@grethaie
@CollieYimby
Apparently so. Come to a red state and look at the roads, water and sewer systems and you’ll see. They went hard on the Reagan “government and taxes bad” thing. Now all of those are falling apart with no money or plans to do anything about it.
@HazeyDaisey17
@ryanmwalters
I can’t believe you don’t think the parents that barely finished high school know better what kind of education their kids need than the people who completed a professional degree in education.
@MyNameIsRickyM
Russians have it so much better than Americans. Talk to American Veterans. They constantly complain about their period of service and the VA. You can’t find a single Russian veteran or soldier to say anything bad. Like none at all. It’s like they’re all dead or something.
@Cpl_Dont_Know
Dad, my wife is mad at you. She’s going to spend the next week trying to talk me out of buying a shitbox Cherokee off of marketplace now. Lol.
@JonLeslieNH
@imlike_mike
@POKE_M0M
Wait, so you’re saying that we should outsource college to China to make it more affordable? Or do you want to bring a bunch of 12 year olds Chinese college professors here on work visas?
@tcburkejr
@conservmillen
Thomas, the government spent money on something I don’t agree with AND had the audacity it make it something that helped people! You should be outraged! How could you believe that those in power using that power to help people would be in line with the teachings of Jesus?
@MuellerSheWrote
@RonFilipkowski
That sounds awesome! The key difference is that your Mother loved you and I’m speculating here, but would have never used you for personal gain.
@CollieYimby
Something that’s neglected about Hillary is that various people had found reasons to dislike her on the national stage for 30+ years before her campaign. It both suppressed turnout for her and potentially gave Trump support that may not have ordinarily voted for him.
@MuellerSheWrote
I just checked out the website and I’ve seen some really scammy NFT launches. But this one is probably the most scammy ever. The only way it could be worse is if Floyd Mayweather Jr was in the page saying “you can’t lose with us”.
@RanchHand0351
I really hope you’re wrong about this. But I’m also haunted by something a SgtMaj said to my platoon when we graduated from MCT at Camp Pendleton “the only thing the violent understand is a greater violence.” I don’t want to see violence between Americans like that.
I don’t know what these cost. But I want to put them on every road around the schools in my town. I usually walk to pick up my kid but we’d have to hang out and watch all of school pick up.
@coachdavidgreen
@idontgethowthis
@LivingBlueTX
Let’s say attempted violence, this guy screams “shot by his own weapon” after it’s taken away from him. Somewhere a SWAT Goon is giggling at the thought of getting to hit that guy with the buttstock of his rifle.
@HazeyDaisey17
@LilaGraceRose
I seem to remember that in our not too distant history the traditional institution of marriage commonly involved men my age (almost 40) marrying teenage girls. But let’s blame not doing that for being exactly what it was.
@BFriedmanDC
The Texas power grid is just another chapter in a book titled “republicans deregulate everything, it stops functioning and crashes spectacularly. And following an election has to be fixed by Democrats.” I wish
@BetoORourke
luck.
@hyeinniejane
@mehdirhasan
They’ll try to use it as proof the education system indoctrinates people. As opposed to sharpening your reasoning skills to the point of being able to recognize their bullshit.
@bethbourdon
@TudorDixon
I unfortunately live in a red state, and can confirm that deer throw themselves in front of cars here too. Maybe deer just aren’t very good at navigating traffic.
@desertrider65
I guess so that I can better understand the situation, is what the state doing consistent with the law? We had a long drug out battle in KS because some wealthy junior well owners didn’t want theirs shut down even though they had agreed to those exact terms.
@xPatriotBlondex
@Angry_Staffer
I know it’s long and there are a lot of big words. But you should probably read the Indictment in this case. If the government has half of the evidence they claim to have literally anyone else would be sitting in a cell until their trial.
