One extremely scary part of the Texas ban is the $10k incentive to become a bounty hunter to go after anyone who ‘assists’ with an abortion—including Uber drivers & clergy. The harm this’ll cause in lower income communities is severe.
Abortion access is always about race & class.
I’m not going to share the graphic video of the Brooklyn neighbor being hit by multiple reckless drivers. But i will share this photo as a reminder of the increasing blind spots of ever-growing vehicles and fact that we have failed to make the safe street design changes we need.
Greenpoint
@NYCferry
stop out of commission ‘indefinitely’ bc the developer sold the property. This isn’t how public transit functions.
And here’s how commuters are being notified this morning: from a boat operater calling out to people as the ferry goes by. Seriously
@NYCEDC
?
Happy New Year! Thrilled to announce that I’ll be joining
@TransAlt
as their new Senior Director of Advocacy & Organizing. We have an historic opportunity to transform our public space to be more accessible, sustainable & safe for all. Ready to get to work for streets for people!
Sorry but congestion pricing exemptions for EVs doesn’t make sense — the majority of cars will be electric in the next ten years, elected leaders need to think ahead to the future a little bit here.
This is a wild take. Mango ladies have been around forever in nyc. Using an imagined scenario to legitimize criminalizing street vendors is disingenuous at best.
.
@NYCMayor
on the mango vendor who was handcuffed at a subway station in Brooklyn: "Next day is propane tanks being on the subway system. Next day is barbecuing on the subway system. You just can't do that."
This is the problem. We have defaulted to NYPD as the response for everything under the sun.
The Mayor’s decision to have cops distribute vaccines at NYCHA ignores the history of medical racism & furthers the surveillance of Black & Brown communities. Fund public health instead.
At the end of
#QueerLiberationMarch
NYPD started pepper spraying & arresting peaceful marchers.
This is why communities are demanding
#DefundNYPD
— Policies of ‘reform’ don’t change systemwide issues.
We need less cops. We need cops out of schools and cops out of social services.
Congestion pricing is the biggest transportation policy change NYC has seen in decades.
We have a historic opportunity to reshape our streets and maximize benefits for faster buses, better biking, and greater sustainability— now’s the time to seize it.
Y’all know that the city loses $1 BILLION in tax revenue because we don’t make hospitals and private universities pay their property taxes?
Columbia is the 7th largest property owner in NYC.
#FundCUNY
A friend was given an appt @ SI hospital for testing bc. he and his mom were sick.
He took public transport from BK and was turned away because the testing site is drive through only.
This is NYC, why do we have drive-thru only options? I know we’re rationing testing but still.
I am so incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and humbled by everyone who put their trust in what we built.
While we wait for RCV rounds & absentee ballots to be counted, I want to congratulate
@LincolnRestler
on a great campaign & fighting for a progressive future the 33rd.
“The streets don’t belong to vehicles, the streets are for the public.” -

Here’s one: apartments that come with an all-you-can-ride transit pass included."

The only time I’ve used a space heater is when my apt building didn’t have adequate heat. Looking forward to what ‘appropriate action’ will be taken against the landlord!
Daily reminder that still not having 24hour subway service is harmful to essential workers and people experiencing homelessness in NYC.
Why has the Gov. & Mayor not committed to any plan on this?
If you drive in the city, congestion pricing is going to help you too! Bc this clearly isn’t working you guys.
Buses stalled; emergency vehicles stuck; there’s a better way!
Isn’t it wild that capitalism applies everywhere except for the 95% of our curb space that we give to cars totally for free?? Like surely there’s better uses. (Green space, sanitation, outdoor dining to name a few!)
🌳🚶♀️🚲♻️
**SF map for visualization. At 90% curb space.
Feeling emotional y’all!
It’s official— We’re on the ballot for the June election! 🎉 It’s real.
I’m incredibly humbled by all the work our volunteers put in: talking with neighbors about what’s possible for the next Council & what our communities deserve. This is all of us.💜
I am humbled and proud to announce the endorsements of
@Biaggi4NY
and
@JessicaRamos
for our campaign. These progressive champions built a grassroots movement in NYC. They’re unapologetic fighters for marginalized communities.
Read the release here:
I’m tired of having to write statements demanding that we believe & respect survivors. The Cuomo reports, and now Stringer allegations, have brought up a lot of stuff i hadn’t fully worked through. It’s a lot.
The only words i have for now are that we all deserve so much better.
This is unfortunate to see — standing with you
@Dianne4NYC
.
I’m also the only educator & former DOE public school alum in my race, and I wasn’t given an interview. The decision had already been made.
This is shameful, I can’t believe
@NYDailyNews
even ran this. A complete smear attack against
@em4assembly
digging up her 2003 Live-journal blog posts.
This is why so many young women don’t want to run for office. This shouldn’t be what politics is about.
Open the subways.
@NYGovCuomo
@MTA
@NYCMayor
you’ve taken away a safe shelter & transit option for thousands of New Yorkers — with no justification for doing so.
A reminder that cuomo is not an anomaly. Men in politics who threaten, abuse, manipulate, & bully continue to be elevated to higher office when we legitimize and dismiss their behavior. We deserve better.
Ten people have been killed on Atlantic Ave in the past year alone. I worked on the block for years and saw so many crashes and near misses -- it’s long been time to redesign safer street infrastructure there. This is govt negligence.
Today, a driver killed a pedestrian at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic — just like in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2019.
It will happen again unless our city’s leaders have the courage to act and finally redesign this street for safety.
OUR STATEMENT:
Our campaign is
@AOC
approved! 💜
AOC demonstrates what is possible when you have an organizer in office - someone who is focused on bringing community directly into the policy process, and who is accountable first & foremost to their constituents.
Here’s the list of
@NYCCouncil
candidates that
@AOC
is endorsing today. 60 in total, and yes there’s only 51 seats. The endorsements include ranked options across all 5 boroughs. All candidates have taken the “Courage to Change” pledge:
On likely the last anniversary of
#RoeVWade
, just here to say that I’m grateful everyday for my abortion. And that it was affordable, safe, and accessible. That is a right we all deserve — regardless of insurance, immigration status or income.
New Zealand just approved a new measure allowing for paid leave after miscarriage. The legislation is believed to be among the first in the world, applying to couples who lose a baby at any point.
✏️Clarifications for ppl calling electeds about
#budgetjustice
:
-The budget isn’t being voted on today/Mon & likely won’t be until end of month.
-The Comptroller does not have a vote on the budget, the
@NYCCouncil
&
@NYCMayor
should be your targets.
-Keep calling your CMs!👏🏼☎️📣
Allowing a transfer from the Broadway G to the J/M was a legitimately good thing the
@MTA
did. Why did they get rid of it? That’s the fastest and most regular transit method in the area — the MTA should bring it back.
Hello 2021! The New Year brings an opportunity for us to carry the work we started in 2020 into our own halls of city government. I’m energized for the work that’s coming.
To kick off the official start of election year I’m excited to share our campaign launch video with you.
The 33rd Council District has never been represented by a woman. In 2021, that will change. I’m excited to announce that I’m running for City Council — because I have a vision for local government that our community deserves.
Join our campaign today!
I hope men in political spaces (and beyond) are reading
@rtraister
's article and using it as an opportunity to reflect on how their behavior perpetuates or replicates the patterns outlined in this reporting.
The recent
@ConEdison
blackout and power outages this weekend makes me think we need a
@NYCCouncil
&
@NYSenate
hearing on the monopoly
@ConEdison
has in NYC. Why has outdated infrastructure been so long to replace and what planning is happening long term given climate change?
.
@ConEdison
ConEd reducing voltage in areas of Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Heights, Canarsie, Flatlands, Old Mill Basin, Bergen Beach and Georgetown in Brooklyn. Limit use of appliances. Report outages to 800-752-6633. .
#alert
At the end of line Church station as
@MTA
shuts down @ 1am.
10 cops & plainclothes.
Outreach worker says “services” means shelter. But there’s no van to transport ppl anywhere. I asked what services are being offered to folks who’re displaced then. *shrugs*
#HomelessCantStayHome
“Mayor de blasio, you made a lot of promises to homeless New Yorkers. We’re here to collect.”
Moving people back to congregate shelters— instead of providing the permanent housing all NYers deserve—is going backwards. NYC needs to halt the move-outs. It’s time for housing first.
I stand in solidarity with Palestineans of
#SheikhJarrah
against settler groups forcing out families from homes they've lived in for decades. The videos of attacks on
#AlAqsaMosque
and families are heartbreaking. I oppose the occupation — all people deserve self-determination.
.
@CityAndStateNY
’s best/ worst Council Member list graded
@StephenLevin33
’s paternity leave as absences. This policy is wrong: it discriminates against parents, disproportionately women, and is part of the reason why men don’t often take earned leave, further impacting families.
Thrilled to receive the
@MomsDemand
Candidate distinction. Gun violence is a gender justice issue & a racial justice issue. I'm committed to organizing with community members in the 33rd & beyond to invest in common sense legislative priorities that keep our neighbors safe.
Hostile architecture has been a tool used to harm homeless people for years. It should have no place in NYC or the
@MTA
subway — public transit is for all.
Sarah Feinberg should issue an apology and replace the benches.
Keep the housing courts closed! We need to extend the eviction moratorium for one year. My office get calls daily from ppl still trying to get Unemployment insurance & fighting against landlord harassment to leave.
We need to
#CancelRent
& provide real rent relief for families.
It's disappointing to hear
@NYCMayor
commit to increasing the amount of NYPD in our city's subways. We need to invest in public transit - focusing on access, reliability, and quality. Increased police presence is not an investment - it's a reaction.
We often talk about the climate crisis at a national scale, but most of what we can do is local.
✅ CSO mitigation
✅ Green roofs + solar microgrids
✅ Stormwater retention
✅ Stopping pipelines & shifting to local renewables
✅ Bioswale raingardens
Ask what your CM is doing!
Today we issued public tickets to
@NYC_DOT
and
@NYPDnews
for chronic and excessive illegal parking.
#placardabuse
& parking violations have gone on for too long — we need real accountability w/ Intro 2159 & public space design changes for our streetscape.
Nearly 40% of NY nail salon workers say they’ve gotten COVID. 81% were cut out of aid.
This is why we need a feminist approach to governing— women & peole of color hit the hardest by the pandemic need to be centered in recovery planning.
@NailTechsUnited
🎉🎉 NYC Council included $3.1billion to fund the NYC Streets Plan in its NYC budget response. This is big news!!
We all deserve a city that is greener 🌱more breathable 😷 and accessible for all NYers to get around.🚶♀️🚲♿️🚌
Let’s get it done!
There is no such thing as "de-certification." If the county party wants to disassociate with us, that is their (unfortunate) choice. But we are still the only official Young Democrats chapter in Brooklyn, as we were re-chartered by
@NYSYD
.
This is overly punitive. I was at
@BarTabacNY
on Wed. & all rules were being followed.
Restaurants are trying to keep up with rapidly changing rules— including the arbitrary new reqmt of no drinks w/o food. NY should be working in partnership w small biz, not shutting them down.
Thank you
@Julcuba
and
@StreetsblogNYC
for covering our parking abuse action yesterday.
The placard corruption on our city streets is chronic — we need a full scale approach to make our streets more accessible and livable for all.
I’ve been a tenant literally since birth. NYC is a city of renters. Yet somehow we haven’t figured out how to provide any rent relief assistance for folks during this pandemic.
Extend the moratorium.
#CancelRent
How many more of these stories do we need to hear? Residential rent is already going back up higher than pre-pandemic rates, we cannot leave small businesses behind in recovery. We need to pass
#Intro1796
@usb_nyc
“They broke me...They doubled the rent."
Wait, there's more!
I'm also honored to share that
@Samynemir
has also endorsed our campaign! Samy is at the forefront of a movement to make elected leaders more accountable to the people they serve. They put action to their values, and I'm thrilled to have their support.
Voting on a budget that *increases* funding for NYPD is shameful, especially after last year’s budget didn’t actually defund.
We need to divest from policing in every area, not just NYPD: schools, social services, child welfare—yet this budget does the opposite. Call your CM rn.
.
@NYCCouncil
is about to arrive and vote on a budget proposal that INCREASES funding to the NYPD. We’ve been calling them to tell them to vote no, but too many council members are ducking calls from constituents & advocates. So we’re here in-person.
#NYCBudgetJustice
I fully and enthusiastically support this strike. Teachers & students deserve to be safe—
@NYCMayor
should delay reopening until every school has the ventilation, staff & support they need.
As a staffer working toward unionization &
@UFT
daughter, proud to stand in solidarity.
@UFT
Executive Board resolution towards a strike authorization vote towards the Delegate Assembly passes unanimously. Thanks
@TeacherArthurG
for the notes.
$900k being the median cost of buying a home in Brooklyn means we don’t have affordable homeownership.
We have a historic opportunity to address our housing crisis coming out of this pandemic. Let’s not waste it.
South Brooklyn has a competitive city council race on Nov. 7th — we can’t let an extreme republican be elected.
Sign up for a shift with
@INDBrooklyn

Seeing all these long CityMD testing lines and wondering why we can’t get a standing order/ non-patient specific prescription for at-home rapid tests, rather than having to pay $25.
Was great to be at the table with
@TransAlt
discussing implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with
@SenSchumer
.
Significant infrastructure funding is coming to NY— as our climate crisis worsens, investment in public transit and emicromobility is more vital than ever.
Great day door knocking for
@CabanForQueens
!
So many voters I talked to are excited for the change she’ll bring to the District Attorney role and wanted to engage on what it means to actually build actually safe communities, rooted in collective solutions, not criminalization.
🎉I'm excited to announce the first of
#TeamAdams
community endorsements!
Today's comes from Vivian Legions, Tenant Assn. President at Berry S.9th St. Houses. I've worked with Vivian on street safety & assisting tenants during the pandemic. It means the world to have her support.
Feeling so much gratitude today for the campaign staffers and volunteers working to create a different political world. 💛 We fight back against toxic culture & masculinity by building a politics of care and joy. It's makes me incredibly hopeful about the future.
So when’s the
@NYCCouncil
oversight hearing on
@BOENYC
’s elections handling?
We need major state reform. The City also holds the purse strings & has accountability here. This is why nepotism & political favoritism is anti-democratic.
The NYC Subway turns 118 today! To mark the occasion
@MTA
President Richard Davey is riding the system in the Bronx, Queens & Manhattan today. He stared the morning helping this woman & her baby down the stairs bc the elevator at 161 St-Yankee Stadium Station is broken.
