No. In Portugal we say “tchau” a lot. It’s quite common. “Adeus” is mainly used for formal good-byes. Also, “tchau” is a word that you can find in any portuguese dictionary. And the word in italian is “ciao”, not “tchau”. So you’re wrong in all accounts.
