Drills are only as good as the FEEL that it produces. Better movement without a feel for that new movement is much harder to blend to the mound. If we want athletes to move better when it counts, we as coaches have to design drills that produce feels that can transfer.

Pitchers—no matter what throwing phase you are in right now (de-load, ramp-up, patterning, velo, etc), you NEED TO STILL BE ON THE SLOPE. Throwing on the mound does not necessarily mean bullpens or anything high intent. Dry work, drill work, plyo throws, catch play…high.

Drills are only as good as the context/intention behind them and the feel/movement they create. Performing a drill blindly is likely to have no positive carryover to the mound.

How many players have I made worse?. That’s a scary, but pivotal, question for coaches to ask. Quick thread on my mistakes and recent/continued development as a coach 🧵:.

🎄25 Days of Drills—Day 4 🎄. End Point Throws 🎯. Picked these up from @RandySullivanPT and @ArmoryFlorida recently and have been loving them!. At the “end point” of the throw (ball release), we should have the least amount of variance compared to the rest of the delivery.

During the last third of my workout this am, I felt sluggish and ready to go home. Then I had the thought—what if those who’ve defended our freedom and those that continue to do so had given up in the last third of the fight? Thank you to those who gave me the freedom.

Pitchers: an outing is almost never as bad as you think it was or as good as you think it was. Learning to evaluate each outing as objectively as possible is a game changer. Take one good thing to build on, one bad thing to improve on and turn the page to the next outing!.

With the weather lately, pitchers haven't been able to get outside and throw much so we used a day earlier this week as a classroom session to discuss pitch tunneling. Yesterday we got to put it into practice. Here's my rookie attempt at a video overlay.

A reminder that changing distal segments via cues, constraints, or implements can absolutely affect proximal segments—for better or worse. Some athletes have zero clue how their pelvis/spine moves through space in the swing/throw and making them aware of it can lead to negative.

Marcos Paz (‘25 TX) has come out firing tonight for @HebronBaseball touching 93 in the first and playing firm. Has gone to a disgusting SL in the upper 70s; low 80s as a big time s/m pitch. Ball comes out easy; delivery is smooth. Easy arm action with effortless velo. #PGHS

Tech is cool but FEEL is way cooler…. As HS and college seasons start up and pro guys head off to spring training in the next few weeks, the importance of FEEL cannot be understated.

2 guys PR’d on the mound today. College guy hit 90 for the 1st time ever (actually 92) and a HS guy hit 85 for the 1st time. Both of them were obviously pumped. But the best part is the guys around them were just as excited, if not more so, for each of them. So dang cool to see.

I have very few regrets from my playing career-biggest by far is I shut down throwing for 1-2 months each winter. Didn’t know any better at the time but looking back I missed out on so much training time. Think twice and do some research before blindly shutting down this winter.
