2) COP stands for 'consensus of parties' (um, no it's Conferece of Parties). I could go on - the substantive analysis is way off too. I mean a cursory glance at the UNFCCC website can factcheck things for you Tom! The state of British jorunalism is dire. 2/2

Wow. What a factually wrong podcast by Sky News Science & Technology editor Tom Clarke. Among the gems: 1) COP is a 'system of meetings' designed to deal with global warming (it's the meeting of states parties to an international agreement) ... 1/2

A UK politician who pretends not to know about the biggest political campaign which spoke to young people & engaged them in the democratic process because she is so scared of alienating her reactionary base has no place being Education Secretary.

Our wonderful @GlobeWarwick administrator Alethea up close and personal with the campus cat. 😻
Rolf report 4 Nov: I rarely give out snisses (that’s a sniff and a cat kiss at the same time). But I could tell this Law School staffer knew all about cats in a v good way, so I made an exception. Nice to meet you! Rolf x

The @FCDOGovUK currently defines ‘Value for Money’ in terms of value to the taxpayer, not improving the lives of those in poverty. This risks worse outcomes for the world’s most vulnerable people. Read our report ⬇️ https://t.co/aVjo1n6BE9

One day we need to discuss the male-dominated leadership in south-east Asia. This is a bro fest.

With due respect & credit where credit is due to the Malaysian diplomatic coup the summit had turned out to be, this is a depressing ‘manel’, underscoring that much work is needed on the gender equality leadership front in SEA!

I have zero patience for people in Western countries who demonise goverments in developing countries for poor labour standards. Yes, we should work for more labour power everywhere. But understand this: the West enables and demands poor labour standards in developing countries

A friend reminded me a couple of weeks ago about my favourite phrase ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’. This platform is often filled with those people who think their ‘good intentions’ behind tweets outweigh the unintended bad outcomes of irresponsible messages.

It will only get worse with the ‘green’ transition in which resources from developing countries are extracted for production of green tech with poor environmental regs & old tech (inc EV batteries) are dumped in ecologically vulnerable in the south states by the global north.
It is reported that Malaysia is the main dumping ground for top US e-waste having accepted over 131,000 metric tonnes between January 2023 and February 2025. Let rich countries deal with their trash. https://t.co/QsdaDL97lc

An incredibly irresponsible tweet with potential for amplifying stereotyping & violence against migrants from a respected ‘expert’. Safety should be an issue for all female workers no matter where they work & there are other sectors as exploitative & dangerous. Do better pls.
Have seen jobs flying about for women to work in migrant hotels. Often targeting desperate and vulnerable. Killing of Rhiannon Whyte raises serious issues about their safety

The ICJ restates what has been known for ages. Those that repeated unquestioningly Israel's fabricated accusations about UNRWA should be held to account. People in Gaza died as a consequence of this.
BREAKING: The ICJ says its findings show that Israel has failed to provide evidence that UNRWA worked for Hamas, despite claims that some of its staff took part in the October 7, 2023 attacks. 🔴 LIVE updates: https://t.co/UQ0NHgZnce

For countries in the global north, poverty & inequality is a political choice. When you have the resources & policy space & you choose to starve children & freeze the vulnerable, this is a deliberate political choice. This is the difference 2/2

I think the difference is about whether the states have the financial capacity & policy space to decide to do something about it or not. For many global south countries, the answer is no bc of systemic drivers of global inequality & unequal distribution of resources 1/2
“Development” is a myth. It makes the Global North complacent and the Global South apologetic. I’ve seen “developed” levels of wealth in Latin America and “underdeveloped” levels of poverty in Europe. Case in point:

I think women of colour will recognise that smug supercilious face which accompanies the ‘we should all learn to live together then’ comment. We have all dealt with women like Keira.

What’s clear from this evening’s #bbcqt is that @ZackPolanski and the Green Party are the only real opposition to Reform.
“How do you expect people to integrate if you’ve taken away their services?” The Green Party’s Zack Polanski says people are “angry”, blaming austerity and calling for politicians to make “different political choices” & speak in a “positive” way about migration #bbcqt
