Last month, Germany filed preliminary objections in the case brought by Nicaragua alleging that Germany failed to prevent genocide or ensure respect for IHL in Gaza. The ICJ should reject Germany's objections and decide the case on its merits. My latest @just_security

"The bottom line: there is no legal basis for targeting the drugs, the boats carrying them, or the people on board. That is true under the law that applies (international human rights law) and under the law that does not apply (the law of armed conflict)."
For policymakers, lawmakers, commentators and the public: We provide a detailed review of the international law relevant to lethal operations against suspected drug boats I teamed up with top experts Mike Schmitt and Tess Bridgeman 1/2

I hope the U.K. authorities promptly address any attacks on the inviolability of the Palestine embassy in London and offer its staff and the building protection - this is a clear breach of the VCDR- and there can be consequences for failing to act.

The #US must withdraw its #ICC sanctions. They are a direct attack on judicial independence. It is shocking to see a tool designed for terrorism and narco-trafficking used against international judges and prosecutors.
Watch: Interview with Canadian #ICC Judge Kimberly Prost is a must-see. The incredible personal cost imposed on judges and prosecutors solely for their work to end impunity is extensive and unacceptable.

There is no legal basis for these strikes. The right of individual self-defense is not engaged as there is no armed attack against the United States. No other State requested that we use force in collective self-defense. LOAC doesn't apply, but even if it did 👇🏽
The existence of armed conflict is a factual matter and the justification for using force needs a separate basis – in NIAC, it is the threat that “terrorists” or members of armed groups pose to innocent life or the security of the state. 5/7
