Let's shout out for our right to make safe and healthy journeys every day.
Today is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. In the UK every day 5 lives are tragically lost on our roads, every life lost is one too many. We remember them.

Today is the start of

across the UK! Millions are taking part in raising awareness and making Safe Roads for All! Read our press release here:

Speed limits are exactly that, limits, set at the top speed that it's safe to drive on a road. Drivers who go beyond these are behaving dangerously and putting themselves and others at risk. We fully support a zero tolerance approach - breaking the law is not acceptable!
If there is any doubt about your fitness to drive, you simply should not do it. A single lapse behind the wheel can have catastrophic consequences
#RoadSafety
It's official!
#RoadSafetyWeek2020
has begun! Thank you to the many thousands of supporters out there sharing and using our free resources all this week to help make our roads safer for everyone. Join the NO NEED TO SPEED campaign here:
This
#DontStreamAndDrive
day our message to drivers is simple - when behind the wheel, make sure your phone is in the glovebox, silent and out of reach. It only takes a moment's inattention to cause devastation.

@PoliceChiefs
Drivers, please remember how dangerous and scary your vehicle can be to people cycling and always leave plenty of space. More people choosing to walk and cycle is a great thing!

Millions across the UK are raising awareness for road safety and joining in a national conversation about speed.
On average, 5 people die on UK roads every day. Whoever you are and however you travel, we need to talk about speed.
Read our response to Giles Coren's insensitive and damaging article in

@TfL
,
@MPSRTPC
and
@RoadPeace
, we stand united in our support for road crash victims and our condemnation of Mr Coren's trivialisation of dangerous driving.
Drivers who tailgate are not only putting their own lives at risk but also those of other road users. Drivers should keep at least a two-second gap (double in wet weather) behind the vehicle in front – giving themselves enough time to react in an emergency.
#StaySafeStayBack
Are you a space invader when you get behind the wheel? Latest stats show that 1 in 8 of all casualties are caused by people driving too closely to the vehicle in front. We're encouraging all drivers to avoid tailgating and to

A drink-driver cut short Jordan's life. We can't let others suffer the same fate. Our current laws say that it's ok to drink and drive - it isn't. Any amount of alcohol affects driving. Join our calls for a zero-tolerance approach:

Ice, snow, heavy rain and fog significantly increase the risks on roads. Stopping distances can double in the wet and increase ten-fold in ice and snow. Driving in bad weather can be lethal. Read our top tips to ensure you stay safe this winter.
Today 50,000 kids are marching for safer roads across the UK, as on average 50 children are killed or injured on our roads every day. We are super proud of everyone taking part in

It is day two of
#RoadSafetyWeek
and today's theme is TEACH.
Thousands of schools and nurseries are getting involved in road safety education today, but it's important that we learn about road safety throughout our lives.
1 in 3 drivers admit to being in a car travelling at over 100mph. We must all shout for a change in attitudes to speeding this Road Safety Week
#RoadSafetyWeek2020
Crash victims have waited three long years for this announcement. Road crime is real crime and it is high time the law, recognised this. 'Drivers who kill others after speeding, racing or using a phone could receive life sentences under new legislation.'
We've spoken a lot about the important changes made to the Highway Code this year, particularly the change in the hierarchy for vulnerable road users. For
#RoadSafetyWeek
, we've produced this short film to remind us all of how to work together to keep everyone safe.
Don't forget to join us on Sunday in lighting a candle next to a photo of your loved one for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Please tag Brake into your posts and use

Every day 5 people are needlessly killed on British roads. This

we remember those who have lost their lives in a road crash and urge drivers to be safe, to ensure that no other family need suffer this terrible tragedy.

This is PREVENTABLE. This is not an accident. This should not happen. The driver has been charged for death by dangerous driving and failure to stop at a scene and he will appear in court tomorrow. Driver actions cause death on our roads, not cars.
On this day in 1896 the first person was killed in a car crash. Over a century later, people are still being needlessly killed on our roads and the way road traffic offences are dealt with by the justice system is not fit for purpose. A full review is required!

With emptier roads, for some there's a temptation to drive faster than they normally might...but with more families and people on the road for their daily exercise, Cycling UK and
@Brakecharity
have teamed up to ask drivers to slow down and take care.
On 30mph roads, the majority of cars exceed the speed limit – this is a clear sign that public perception over the acceptability of speeding needs to change. A zero-tolerance approach to speeding sends a clear signal that breaking the law is not acceptable.

Wow, what a

we had.
A big thank you to everyone who took part in schools and organisations across the country - you have all helped to raise awareness of the risks on our roads. Let's keep striving for safe and healthy journeys.
“It is absolutely right that this hierarchical approach to road safety is echoed in enforcement — there is simply no argument against the police focusing their finite resources on targeting the greatest dangers on our roads.”
I decided to stop just complaining about being nearly hit by cars and do something about it. I’ve set up a petition to make driving safely around horses a mandatory part of the driving test. Let’s educate the future generations how to keep us all safe.
Congratulations to five-year-old Henry for organising a Bake for Brake this weekend in memory of his Dad, who died in 2020 when he was knocked off his bike whilst cycling.
Wonderful Henry raised an incredible £1,600 for Brake!

Today we celebrate Emergency Services and Road Victim Services

Going to an Xmas party this month? In December, someone will be killed or injured in a drink-driving incident every single hour. Remember, not a drop of alcohol is safe before getting behind the wheel. We need a zero tolerance drink drive limit.
Heartbreaking story highlighting the devastating impact that phone use behind the wheel can have. Government needs to crack down on this dangerous behaviour by introducing tougher sentences and investing in more roads policing!

This ad is a serious misjudgement and should be removed immediately. 75 people are killed or seriously injured on British roads every day. To trivialise crashes and their impact is hugely insensitive to victims and everyone working to improve road safety.
