5 years ago today a despicable attack at Manchester Arena claimed 22 lives and changed many others forever. The city came together in compassion, love and a refusal to give in to hatred.
Today we mark the fifth anniversary and remember all those affected. Their light shines on.
At 10.31pm, five years ago today, a terrorist attack took place at Manchester Arena.
The twisted motivation of the attack was to divide us and make us afraid. It didn’t succeed.
We will never forget those who lost their lives or were injured and how Manchester stood together.
Marcus Rashford has had our backs this past year, and this shows that everyone in Manchester has his.

There is comfort in remembering.
In acknowledging that, while taken horribly soon, they lived. They changed our lives. They were loved, and they are loved.
It is why memorials such as the Glade of Light are so important. Why Catherine and I so wanted to be here today.
We want Albert Square to be one of the best city spaces in Europe - pedestrianising the road around the square (except Princess Road) to enhance our most important public square.
