Slides from a talk I gave in September at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in Toronto. Machines of Loving Hype: Let's get specific about "curing cancer with AI" (secretly, personalized TCR therapies for NUT carcinoma and beyond)

TP53: - Discovered 45 years ago, most cited gene all time - No therapies - 500 million people currently living will die of TP53 mutant cancers without new therapies Our Preprint: - A general strategy for TP53 missense mutant cancers (majority) with prototype small molecules

And almost 3 decades later, in 2011, I prescribed immunotherapy for the very first time in my career and watched a patient’s melanoma melt away The gap between advances in basic science and progress in the clinic can be long but, without research, we won’t move forward at all!

we're hiring for a senior computational scientist at @NOETIK_ai. this is a very multidisciplinary role, and will involve everything from foundation model inference to clinical trial simulations to tumor microenvironment analysis you dont need to know how to do everything! we are

How far are we from "protein printers" that enable anyone to make a protein of any sequence on-demand in a couple hours? I'm imagining a box that takes a protein design from a computer and then physically makes it on a bench or desk. This isn't yet feasible. It's still

Recommendations for mass spec text book that’s conceptual & covers space of possibilities in as much a unified framework as possible? Want to understand assay choices having big consequences in eg mass tag vs SIL ref peptides w/ SRM, PRM, shotgun DDA, target list DDA, DIA, &c

@ATinyGreenCell do you have a few favourite/selected papers and books for an interested layperson to get a sense of what's currently possible in biotech--or, more specifically, genetic engineering of plants and animals?

Just start a bio company. Tech is gonna get exponentially harder and harder to compete in as its literally poised to obviate all humans from that work. Biology is an infinite niche. Go make value with life as your canvas. Food Shelter Energy Materials Consumer Goods

A few different people reached out to see if I believe the results of "SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines sensitize tumours to immune checkpoint blockade" ( https://t.co/qdth5ZDZed) Answer? Kinda. I think the paper conflates three hard to distinguish effects:

some commentary on the writing of this: i spent two months futzing around on this article because i couldn't figure out where it should go. for a long time, i was writing about how 37%~ of the National Cancer Institute's budget was slashed this year, which is quite bad, but we

@BenjaminGVincen Hopefully will get to start with a 'Cancer Antibody Atlas' with @casanova_lab - it's less about finding a cohort and effort and more about 'who cares that it gets done'? I don't want to build cures myself - but I can build a dataset to find them...

Tough problem because of (1) biomarker valley of death, and (2) there are already many therapies for non-specific elimination of B cells and plasma cells. To be commercially viable you may need to crack epitope-specific depletion of antibodies/Bc/Pc. Maybe expand plasmapheresis

Most value is created by copying a small number of very good ideas. Notice the American River in 1848; stake a claim. If you want to find the cure to *insert here* chronic disease - mine serum antibodies from that condition. Nobody is here yet.
