My 12 year old’s funding proposal.
This poster follows yesterday’s unsuccessful oral presentation on this theme. I know what comes next is an email with google slides.
Should she get funded? 🤣

Long day at the office, stayed late enough to see the man whose job is to clean in the evening. Not a first, but he breaks our small talk to tell me that he waters my office plants when they look sad. For years I thought I had the most resilient plants. 🌺🌈

In clinic today… Used the “Food is medicine” explanation a few times and sadly this remains a hard concept to grasp by patients. People understand side effects from meds but not ‘side effects’ from unhealthy food. We need to change this thinking in society

This rings so true having had to say goodbye to one of my patients I have known for a long time. Sometimes the best thing a doctor can do for a patient is to be there for the loved ones who have a hard time accepting it’s time to let go.
Beautiful quote.
Medicine is about relationships.
We are not mechanics. We’re not fixing a broken vehicle.
We are not soldiers. It’s not a war against disease.
We are humans. We must care and show it at every phase of illness.
Healing requires relationships.

He told me too how very hard it was to find a journal to accept it after many tries. So the delusional message I tell myself when I get a paper rejection is that people just don’t get it now, but they will in about 30 years and they will realize what they missed. 😂

Several, but hardest one is the pull between being 100% doctor/scientist and 100% mom.Accepting that sometimes one of them needs to be lower and learning how to juggle that swing takes time.Lots of mom guilt in the process but eventually I’ve learned to take that extra burden off

Why❓ Slow progression.
🔹In compensated
#NASH
cirrhosis, the risk of progression to decompensation/death is 10%/year
🔹After 1st decompensation, risk of progression to subsequent liver events/death is 32/year
📢RCTs with sample sizes in the 100s and duration <2 yrs will miss 🎯
