We’re pleased to share that the member of LNER rail staff who suffered multiple injuries at Huntingdon has today been discharged from hospital. He still has a significant recovery ahead and his family are appealing for privacy. ⬇️

High fares are every passenger's top issue. Our railway is among the most expensive to use in Europe. The Railways Bill fails to tackle this issue head-on. Emily Sullivan of the Association of British Commuters explains why a hybrid private-public model will fail Great British

@ABCommuters @TransportCttee It’s a deeply disappointing document. 1. No commitment to removing ‘Appendix B’ - a benchmark for inaction affecting over a 1,000 stations across the UK. 2. It bakes in the same glacial rate of step-free improvements endured under the Tory Gov’t. https://t.co/bXHuCs6wYg

The 'Accessibility Roadmap' was finally released this week, accompanying the Railways Bill. It was supposed to be a long-term plan with timescales to full rail accessibility, as demanded by the @TransportCttee. Instead, the Roadmap: ◾️ Includes just minor commitments until 2027

The more I think about it, the proposed separation of government support for GBR's train operations is riddled with illogicallities and makes a nonsense of an "integrated" railway.

@RMTunion calls for reversal of cuts to number of BTP officers following Huntingdon attack. The Union says in a recent report, the Chief Constable warned that the force is now “operating at the limits of safe headcount reduction.” Govt is reviewing safety.

The government’s new Railways Bill, tabled today in the House of Commons, is critically unambitious. It sets Great British Railways up to fail and passengers to be disappointed. @bringbackBR @ABCommuters @christianwolmar 👀Take a look at our response to the new Bill:
weownit.org.uk
The Railways Bill is an opportunity to deliver a railway that works for passengers, not profit. The bill is currently failing to deliver that.

Reforming Access for All Programme "we aim to transition to a rolling programme with a commitment of up to £70m per year" Devil is in the detail: "we aim to" + "up to £70m per year” - Still 100 years until stations are step free No update on 50 stations announced in May 2024
The underwhelming 'Accessibility Roadmap' published by @transportgovuk merely maintains the status quo on rail accessibility funding. While the change to a rolling programme of £70m a year is welcome, this is little more than was provided under the Tories. @Heidi_Labour

This roadmap won't deliver the fundamental investment needed to make the UK railways accessible. Lots of words, some of them the right ones, but little in terms of shifting the dial. The 'Welcome Points' sound like a rehash of the ticket office closures pitch by the RDG. 2/2

First thoughts on the 'Accessibility Roadmap". Deeply disappointing. No ⬆️ funding for 'Access for All' - the £370m is 'business as usual' in funding terms. No change to 'Appendix B'. Still no news on the 50 stations announced in May 2024. 1/2... https://t.co/lneDs0Y8CK

. @LNER has released a statement from Andrew Johnson, the driver of the 1825 Doncaster to London King's Cross on Saturday night. "The action I took is the same as any other driver. I think my colleagues onboard were the real heroes and I’d like to pay tribute to their bravery."

@Clinnick1 Exactly! We made the same point fighting for ‘guards’ some years ago @ABCommuters ? But they had safety training ‘reduced’ to become train managers!
