đš my first, first-authored paper! I'm so proud of this paper that has taught me how to be a better helper/networker. TLDR: When seeking for help, ask "Can you *or someone you know* help me" to mitigate referral aversion! Shout-out to đcollaborators!

Since 2023, @JonHaidt and I have been studying playâs impact on mental health. Thereâs exciting evidence, but much more that needs to be done. Also, if youâre a company interested in testing the effects of play in your workplace, Iâd love to partner with you!
There has been no criticism of the play side of my argument in Anxious Generation. Everyone can see that kids need to play, a lot. But there's still a lot we don't know. Yejin Roberts and I aggregate the research on play and ask for comments here: https://t.co/UCem5i2ZOU

what a nice shoutout, @AdamMGrant ! Ko and I are working on a number of follow up projects examining how we mistakenly "keep doors closed", so stay tuned :) đȘđ
Kindness isn't always about saying yes. It's often about suggesting someone more available or capable. 6 studies: We underestimate how much others value referrals. Making connections shows care. More demands require more boundaries. If you can't open your calendar, open a door.

Switching quickly between digital media doesn't reduce boredom. It intensifies it. 7 experiments: Skipping and swiping through segments to sustain interest backfires. Divided attention thwarts satisfaction and meaning. Enjoyment depends on full immersion in one task at a time.

beautifully written, @FleerackersA ! It was fun to reflect on my ghosting journey, and happy my research doesn't remain RIP-ing in our ivory tower. also in time for halloween! đ»
Iâm sure this one by @FleerackersA will resonate with many people, as itâs not that uncommon to be ghostedâby a friend, a romantic fling, even a years-long partner. It helped me have some perspective on my own experience getting ghosted in college. Enjoy!

Before the 1990s, kids experienced more risk, more thrills, more physical injuries, and fewer psychological injuries than they do today. Kids had more freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. We have forgotten that kids are antifragile.
Fully 50 percent of a '70s boyhood was spent building bike jumps. The other 50 percent was spent recovering from broken bones from using bike jumps. https://t.co/FaOOx0uwzW

So honored @AdamMGrant chose to feature a work we've worked on for 4+years! As Nadav said, âCandor stings briefly. Silence leaves an open wound.â This should have been our last sentence in the paper!" If I had a chance to revise the paper, we'd revise to this :)
Ghosting isn't always due to a lack of care. Itâs often a misguided effort to avoid hurting someone. Many people stop replying to shield others from pain. They don't realize being ignored is usually worse than being rejected. Candor stings briefly. Silence leaves an open wound.

Fathers (and uncles, etc) have a really important role to play in giving children a play-based childhood.
Fathers, if play is not core to your relationship with your kids, donât be surprised if they appear distant during the teen years. The neuroscience: fathers & children both get oxytocin spikes during play more than moms. âJoyâ should be dadâs nickname~Dr. Anna Machin. #DadsMatter

Mixed-age play groups are so much better for kids: more caretaking, less bullying, more learning both ways. Peter Gray lays out the reasons, and explains why schools should adopt @LetGrow's "Play Club": https://t.co/X3FjFKBqBo

1. Asking good questions is foundational to science but isn't something that most people learn explicitly. Here are some thoughts about how to ask good research questions, esp. in psychology - would also welcome hearing your ideas:
