The biggest mistake I see people make about friendships is that they will just happen. That’s like saying health will just happen. The more you dial up your intentionality as a friend, the more you will dial up the quality of every other part of your life.

"By far the biggest medical surprise of the past decade has been the extraordinary number of studies showing that the single best predictor of health and wellbeing is simply the number and quality of close friendships you have."

Facebook once bought a VPN app for $120M and turned it into a surveillance tool that spied on 33M+ users' entire phones for years. This app helped Zuck buy WhatsApp for a whopping $19B and break Snapchat's encryption. Thread.

Young adults in the English-speaking World are very unhappy. The young adult mental wellbeing crisis is much more pronounced in the English-speaking world than in Western Europe.

One app to rule them all seems unlikely to happen as specific UI and private data context are more usable by humans. How many people have been terrible at using Google? A lot of people need prompt stacking behind the interface layer to access full model power.

There’s likely too much fear that AI models eat the app layer as they improve. For AI Agents to work, most enterprises will require a bridge between the AI and their specific workflows. It turns out the last mile of making AI Agents work in real, highly variable and hostile.

3. People who prefer dogs over cats reported higher levels of conscientiousness, agreeableness, and extraversion, while people who prefer cats showed higher openness to experience and neuroticism. This pattern was similar in both women and men.

2/ Living more atomized lives generates negative downstream social effects. Decline of civic engagement, depression, anxiety, political polarization all have roots in this. The good news? We can recreate this at a small scale by being intentional & curating for likeminded people.

1/ This sentence explains alot about modern America. For most of history humans spent a lot of time with a wide range of people from babies to elders. They didn’t just see birth & death, they participated in it. This is the social environment our brains evolved to engage in.

More specifically, we are overwhelmingly told to see life as an exercise in risk mitigation. Maintain optionality, avoid pain, optimize happiness.

The older I get, the more I realize that showing up is the key to life. Show up when it’s hard. Show up when no one’s watching. Show up when you don't feel like it. Show up when the rewards are uncertain. Show up. You can never bet against the person who just keeps showing up.

The year is 2029. You’ve been in a group chat for a long time. It has history, lore. You’ve shared laughs and cried together. You care for the 38 other participants deeply… today, you wake up and find out they’re all bots. No one is “real” except you. Whole social graph, bots.
