Sadly we cannot outcompete multibillion VCs who copy-paste our architecture and code (open source, right?).
@AkulaApp
is winding down and I'll be taking a break from Ethereum core dev for the foreseeable future.

I kept being poked how I knew that
@paradigm
's new 'client' is a copypasta.
They open sourced their repo today so see for yourself 👇
Not good to lie on record
@gakonst
.
GH
@github
has deleted repo of libmdbx, database engine used by Erigon family of nodes. Likely because of US sanctions against Russia and/or
@ptsecurity
.
Welcome to brave new world.
- Akula is blazing fast
- Its database is compressible to 50-60 GB or even less, with pruning
- Rust has iOS toolchain available
- MDBX should work on iOS
With some effort we will reach the ultimate feat of decentralization:
Akula full node on iPhones with >=128GB SSD
Unpopular opinion: the increasingly messy, fragmented Ethereum L2 landscape is going to kill the ecosystem entirely and drive more and more applications and developers to monolithic/“integrated” ecosystems like Solana.
Ethereum is as toast as Bitcoin if this is accepted. The only proposed way to scale Ethereum is through corrupt centralized L2s. L1 sharding is not even mentioned anymore.
Just imagine if you had a unified L1 EVM env with negligible costs to do what you want. Not bending over backwards to gas schedule.
But wait, there is one actually.
@FantomFDN
, with even better node software launching in prod soon.
No one is talking about this but rollups are such a paradigm shift for dev experience. I’m only starting to realize this because it’s my first time building an L2-first protocol.
The fact that all EVM resource costs except calldata are negligible is so empowering yet I haven’t…
Fantom's new Rust node, Ballet, will sport (as benchmarked) up to 100x faster implementation of Lachesis algorithm. Lachesis epochs are processed in as little as 100ms by Ballet.
Moreover, all database design benefits pioneered by
@ErigonEth
will power Ballet as well.
By the way,
@paradigm
, your legal compliance not screaming about libmdbx - a *sanctioned* piece of code yet? Your copypasta depends on it and my Rust bindings.
@n0computer
for example refused to use it for their IPFS impl.
> The EVM’s story ... closely mirrors the story of JavaScript, ... the most popular programming language in the world.
COBOL used to be popular too.
Where's COBOL now?
Before 1559 we had more gas price variability. You could send a low fee tx and wait for a less congested block.
Now fees on Ethereum suck always, in every block. And if you complain about it, EF tells you to fuck off and use L2 (=not Ethereum).
Prediction - 5 years from now:
- EL/EVM will be decoupled - or not exist at all
- only Beacon chain will exist
- it will be a specialized Filecoin for other execution environments (a.k.a. ‘rollups’)
At least this is where the wind is blowing imo.
#FantomBallet
is a new addition to Fantom's technology stack. Our work complements the already impressive
#FantomSonic
network and its team.
More information on Ballet will be available in the coming months.
So basically what
@paradigm
did throughout their codebase was copypaste (like 'StagedSync'), refactor and rename (like 'Pipeline').
Maybe to advertise it as 'Paradigm Super-Fast Sync Pipeline' or whatever bullshit their marketing dept comes up with.
At the same time, lots of justification in the docs for the copypasta.
No fastrlp wasn't ported from Golang 'fastrlp' you dipwit. Nice try at smear and justification for copypaste though.
Rumor mill says that libmdbx author has banned Paradigm and will not provide any support for their copypasta.
Once their 'client' gets IO bottleneck or rides into SIGSEGV, good luck reverse engineering terse C full of syscalls.
amusing fact:
paradigm is using a bootleg russian db engine for reth. it is developed by a company that the us government considerers a sanctioned entity.
Unlike Ethereum,
@FantomFDN
has a unique consensus algorithm, Lachesis.
Asynchronous DAG with single-block finality. No interactive voting, just validators producing DAG edges forming into blocks at extremely fast pace.
Read up on Lachesis here:
The first ever SNARK proving ASIC 👀
Real-time proving, real-time settlement, universal synchronous composability—coming sooner than most think :)
We can fix Ethereum fragmentation!
Ethereum is always held to an impossibly high standard by most other communities.
For example, L2 UX is considered bearish because it has not "yet" abstracted everything away from the end user.
However, L1 outages are acceptable because "the chain is still in Beta".
Should start full time calling Ethereum distributed database instead of blockchain, if only to steer convos towards hard computer science instead of decentralization demagogy, price, ‘investment’ and get rich quick scams.
True Names Limited (TNL), the nonprofit that funds and organises development on
@ensdomains
, has terminated the contract of Brantly Millegan effective today.
Happy to see
@AkulaApp
become the benchmark of Ethereum client performance.
No BitTorrent-based sync as in
@ErigonEth
yet, but that will come soon enough. As well as block creation - 1B gas blocks on Akula and Erigon-based network should be very much possible.
Kill an open source project, only to become a non-functional retarted VC version of it. 👏👏👏

I realised that the 1559 burn is my absolute favourite mechanism in the
#Ethereum
EVM. It is the great equaliser.
Before 1559, miners had the privilege of tweaking gas limits and prices of transactions mined by themselves arbitrarily. Sure, they always carried an opportunity…
Translation:
Appropriate a well-written client and use it leverage in the interests of what projects our VC invested in. Own and milk Ethereum.
They already control solidity dev through Foundry, now they possess the entire stack.
Now that we’re done with 4488/4490 quick fixes, it’s time to move to the more pressing matters.
Like standardizing state sync format.

solana poses a large and growing threat to ethereum.
you’re wrong if you believe otherwise bc “haha VC chain offline”.
i can explain why - after following both ecosystems closely for years and talking to 100s of devs & users.
i want the EVM to win. but i’m also not blind.
This is an important notice to all LINK-A, MATIC-A, YFI-A, and UNIV2USDCETH-A users.
Per the Maker Constitution's Decentralized Collateral Scope Framework, the LINK-A, MATIC-A, YFI-A, and UNIV2USDCETH-A vault types are being offboarded from the Maker Protocol.

Rounds 14 has an Ethereum Infrastructure track 🏗🥳!
Tons of great projects there, but I'll shill a few:
1.
@go_ethereum
finally has a grant: 🎉
Goes directly to a multisig controlled by the team, no trusted third party 👀
Go thank the person who got you into crypto.
I'll start.
Thank you
@aantonop
. We've never met, but I consumed more of your content when trying to understand crypto than anyone else.
Explanation:
Akula will provide a new gRPC-based tracing API implementing the same
@OpenEthereumOrg
ad-hoc tracing. Legacy JSONRPC will be supported as well.
Extremely based, no more pains of having to run 2 nodes just to sync mainnet.
If anyone wants a way into Eth core dev, will guide you through making CL light client for Akula.

Russian elites were mentally unprepared to fight a total war. It was supposed to be a regime change, but Zelensky turned it into a total war.
All the worse for Ukraine then.
I've only used mastodon for a week. My account just got suspended for:
"Being a capitalist"
I am not sure what that means. But I guess I can fix it by sending some moneros to the server owner?
The Fediverse is not very welcoming.
people spend a lot of gas not just on events, but on evm execution. onchain computation adds a significant overhead. i personally don't think it's feasible to continue asking users to pay the bill. happy to announce we just raised $69m to just put everything into calldata.
CBDC's only difference is that it replaces the hodgepodge of digital banking + IBAN + cross-bank transfers.
Otherwise digital currency is already here, hello?
If you oppose CBDC you might as well rally against 5G towers because.... reasons.
agree or disagree with him on various issues, but it is good to see a prominent politician speak plainly about the dangerous and illiberal black hole which is CBDCs
do not create governmental systems you would not want your worst enemy to have control over
Today we're announcing Helios, a fast, portable, and secure Ethereum light client written in Rust.
Helios syncs in two seconds, uses no storage, and provides trustless access to Ethereum.
Code:

> if there's a bug in Geth
Nethermind and Besu get slashed and geth carries on as a) supermajority b) official EF client.
And then the bug gets codified in Appendix K, Anomalies on the Main Network of Yellow Paper.
Happened before, will happen again.
if you actually sit down and do the math, this is terrifying.
if theres a bug in Geth, all validators using it would be slashed 82% in a few hours.
And the total amount of staked ETH would be cut by 53% = 16,685,751 ETH ($55B usd) would get deleted
For Ethereum to survive, it needs
- less shiny cryptography
- take the next CS university textbook and check how to fix the insane read/write amp in the nodes
For Ethereum to survive, it needs
1. ZKP consensus
2. ZKP transactions by default
3. Endogenous fiat exchanges
4. Index capabilities so that we can reliably run decentralised UIs

Reminder: Latvia refused resident ethnic Russians citizenship on independence in 1991. They got non-citizen passports with loss of political rights. An apartheid-like regime in the middle of Europe.
Very democratic, very EU.

@BitcoinFists
I don't know what you've heard about Russia.
But Russian banks are leagues ahead in terms of customer service and consumer protection. And no, you don't get shit like this without due process.
A potential bug in Geth that causes an invalid chain to get finalized will not only destroy $50B of value (most of which are held by unsophisticated retail users) but could reduce Ethereum's economic security by 75%, rendering it 30% less economically secure compared to Solana.
Just an ordinary day for Lightning Network users. Too few sats on your balance? Too bad, we're going to steal it, but now you can do trustless swaps! 🤦♂️
1/X: I am getting people claiming
@Uniswap
has funded
@rotkiapp
with a grant in the past.
Fueled by Adam's tweet and by info in their site.
Uniswap integration + oracle is in rotki, and a grant was indeed applied for and awarded
😅But the grant was unfortunately never paid out

I don't think China ever said they would shoot down the plane? Plenty of options to respond without casus belli.
Like the already announced drills in 6 areas - all around Taiwan.
Russia will make DAOs actual legal entities à la LLC 🤨
> Legislation on decentralized autonomous societies (DAO) is being discussed .. we will introduce the concept of a digital society .. and make it so .. that this is what an ordinary LLC can become
