Tonight, the heads of Canada’s unions met in an emergency session to stand united behind Air Canada Flight Attendants in defying the government’s unconstitutional attack on workers’ rights.

This may expedite aspects of the Courts determining whether the Minister can unilaterally direct the Labour Board to end strikes via section s.107. If the Courts find that there is no such power, then no fines can be levied against the union. A rule of law principle #cdnlaw

Recall that @AirCanada let negotiations break down over 1) wanting to keep extracting unpaid labour out of their flight attendants; and 2) wanting to keep junior flight attendants grossly underpaid. Gov’t should let management explain their position to the public.

If workers’ Charter rights are to have any meaning, the Supreme Court must close the Section 107 loophole ASAP. The labour minister should not be able to order workers back to work against their will via email.
