This is more of an insecure state issue than airport size.
There are countries with much larger and busier airports - and REAL terror threats - that don't have such queues. Accra, Abidjan, etc.
Drop-offs are drama-free. Checks only at pp control. 256 is stuck in the AK47 era.
The amount of people and cars at the airport is insane. We need a bigger airport. Full stop.

I've just got the vehicle the 2nd interior wash in 12 months. There's hardly any unpaved surface where I operate from. And it's an African city.
A while back, I barely had shoes cleaned in Europe. Forest runs... Then Kla happened.
Kigali has set standards for high that the next person to be in charge has to do better by miles.
Doing three walks in Kigali on different and not needing to wash your shoes after every walk is still alien to me. Or people entering your house and not removing shoes....
