If you fill a building with gasoline for four years, light a match, throw it inside, then declare arson is bad, you are still an arsonist.

(dating as a phd student) option 1: date non-grad students, have your academic life barely understood option 2: date grad students, find yourself stuck in an endless loop of discussing research and academia in your minimal free time #phdchat #academicchatter

Rosalind Franklin's 100th birthday is this weekend. I've seen many people claim that she couldn't share the 1962 Double Helix Nobel Prize because she died in 1958. This is false. Dag Hammarskjold won the prize posthumously in 1961. 'No posthumous prizes' wasn't a rule until 1974

Exploiting the pandemic to wall off the U.S. and dismantle one of our greatest strengths—our ability to attract and retain the brightest minds from around the world—may ultimately cause even more long-term, self-inflicted damage to our country than #COVID19. Abhorrent.

Today @AAAS, AERA, & I sent a public letter to NSF. LGBTQ people are underrepresented in STEM, but NSF won't commit to adding LGBTQ demographic measures to the national STEM census and ignores LGBTQ challenges in STEM. Disparities can't be reduced if we refuse to measure them.

New Tonight: Disturbing video from @WBFO in Buffalo, NY shows an elderly man walk up to police in riot gear. An officer shoves the man...he falls backwards, hits his head...starts bleeding immediately...motionless. Why did this happen @BPDAlerts ?
