What will it take to acknowledge our own? Can we read earlier work, without prejudice, and apply it as relevant today? What have we lost out on by only citing the West? #IndianEconomists #development #RethinkingEconomics

Read this! #Pune was once a pensioner’s pradise and student capital. Green, cool, #cycleable with salubrious localities. Its changed into ugly, dusty, less green and chaotic metro. We are headed for decay with the hyper dvlpt lacking aesthetics and vision. Can we still undo this?

I feel a tad bit sad every time I go outside the country. In Vietnam now. Lots of parks, used by the elderly for exercise and socializing. Lots of bicycles on the roads. We could have all this and more if only we could root out corruption and develop civic sense in India.

@sumitakale @nitinwelde It is same with healthcare. Big hospitals and tertiary care is visible (politicians' oxygen) Corporates, contractors and education mafia makes money on that. Primary healthcare and prevention measures (safe water, air, food ; work, transport safety) are ignored. People get bad

@sumitakale Brilliant analysis of why cities are sick of traffic, but won't take medicine, nor abstain from the dope. Maybe we knew this but haven't cared to summarise so well. In any case, the vicious cycle is only better analysed than broken; and so cities remain doomed with more roads.

It's time to give up on India's state-owned environmental bodies. Not one lives up to its mandate. "Between 2020 and 2021, corals vanished from the maps of Great Nicobar island’s coastline while vital green zones were... reduced in size." https://t.co/Vscsceu5mC. @_Vaishnavi_R.

Builder ties, temple land, and "development" ... the Pune pattern writes itself. Dhangekar may be inconvenient, but he's asking what every Punekar who cares about Vetal Tekdi should.

WOW!! @DhangekarRavi publicly links @mohol_murlidhar and 5 builders to the #Vetaltekdi projects. Says the BB rd is for the benefit of builders and not for any traffic reason! Who are the 3 unnamed builders? This is an appeal to journalists to investigate this grave allegation,
